Nettles is one of the best defensive third baseman ever. Stephens was good defensively, but not nearly as good as Nettles. Stephens may have been the better hitter (117 wRC+ vs. 111 wRC+) but he was bogged down by his last three seasons in which he was putrid. Nettles was more durable (Stephens had a shorter career) and they had identical power numbers.really? that's your best come back? Give me a reason where Nettles is better than Stephens
You might actually learn something...Imagine if I actually looked at imaginary stats with plus signs en sech.
Unlikely.Your team whoops the fuck out of Omar's team 9 times out of 10
He might be brain-dead. That would explain the whole Cardinal fan thingYou're citing 162 game averages for a guy who played in a 154 game season? And he only had 23+ home runs and 111+ RBIs in four of his seasons. He had only three seasons of 29+ doubles and two with 175+ hits.
Also, why are you comparing a 3B to a SS?
Rather not.You might actually learn something...
Eddie Rommel, Dolph Luque, Bobby Schantz, Wilbur Wood and John Hiller can make up my bullpen.
It wouldn't even be a close series man.Unlikely.

I'm not laughing at the selection of Stephens over Nettles. You have a case, though I would take Nettles. I'm laughing at the process you used to declare him better (RBI's and batting average, lol)
I went with Luque over Eichhorn. (Luque started more than he relieved. But he deserves credit, too often ignored.)Hiller's 1973 and 1974 seasons are about as good as it gets for a reliever. Mark Eichhorn's 1986 season as well.
Wood had some amazing seasons as a reliever and starter.
You're right. You'd have to forfeit for a lack of players when Gooden shows up in the dugout to "rally" your left and right fieldersIt wouldn't even be a close series man.
He died at 48- what the hell does that have to do with anything?Fair point, but I was also giving counting stats to prove that Stephens was without a doubt, a better hitter. Defense aside. Also give a nod to the fact that Stephens died at the age of 46 or some shit so I'm throwing durability out the window.
They weren't flukes though. And he wasn't driving in RickeyHendy. (Not that I don't live Donnie Baseball. Just love HernandeZ moar. Possibly on account of JustForMen.)Murphy's the Mattingly of center fielders. HOF-caliber peak bookended by a bunch of mediocre seasons.
Okay want more stats then?
Stephens: 117wRC+
Nettles: 111 wRC+
Also it's pretty amazing that Stephens played 155 games in a 152 game season in 1949, where he posted a 7.5 WAR.

Raines for some reason is the lovable junkie. You're right. You'd have to forfeit for a lack of players when Gooden shows up in the dugout to "rally" your left and right fielders
