Rob Base,
See, I think it is a priority because CJ is beat up man. He's been doing EVERYTHING for the offense and he won't be great forever. His health is very important. The offense is terrible without him because he is the main part of it. We need a guy that can come in and be very good, not average.
Here's my stance. If Watkins is there at #10, I hope we take him. If not, I hope we can trade down and land Evans. Those are really the only wrs I would want to see the Lions take. Simply bc those are the only ones I could see being an eventual #1 WR. I like Matthews a lot, but I can't see him ever being anything more than a #2, not that there's anything wrong with that.
However, CJ is no spring chicken and his body is already being beat the fuck up. I don't wanna wait til CJ is "washed up" to find his replacement. I would like to give that replacement time to learn and grow alongside CJ, like what Alshon is doing with Marshall(best duo in NFL imo).
But, if neither of those moves are possible, we still need a young productive WR to help take some slack off of CJ. So if we land someone via FA or on the 2nd or 3rd day of draft, so be it. As long as they help keep CJ healthier. We've all seen what our O looks like without him in it.
IF there is a top 10 worthy CB there and I think there will be, I think they snag him. Amukamara was not that guy. I think Dennard is that guy this year. More importantly, I feel like that's what the Lions think too.
Dennard would play up close to the line of scrimmage. That is what the Lions need. A CB that can jam receivers and make the QB hold on to the ball a second or two longer and let Ansah and others get a chance to reach him.
With all due respect to Sparty's defense, I would argue that it wasn't the CB play that drove the defense. They did play a lot of man and they did jam a lot of WR's but they also committed a ton of PI's. Some might even say that it is Dantonio's philosophy that the amount of flags the zebras will throw for PI is not unlimited. I am definitely biased but I think Dennard relies too much on his hands and not enough on his legs and hips to be an elite CB in the NFL.I'm a MI fan but I watched every Sparty game this year because I respect that pro style D they play (same D the Hawks play). It was highly impressive. This coming from a dyed in the wool MI fan. I watched, wanting to find something, anything to tear down. And I couldn't. Bring that shit to the D, please.

Hoping that rep left with Schwartz.
I read today -- teams attempted 31 passes over 15 yards against Dennard this past year. They completed 3 of 31. That is SICK. When you have a CB who can shut down half the field like that -- it frees up the rest of the defense.
Doing the opposite of whatever Drew Sharp says is best for business.
