Lol. So if there's a WR there that could potentially be a #1, you don't draft him because you're looking strictly for a #2?

Ask Matt Millen.

Rob Base,

See, I think it is a priority because CJ is beat up man. He's been doing EVERYTHING for the offense and he won't be great forever. His health is very important. The offense is terrible without him because he is the main part of it. We need a guy that can come in and be very good, not average.

I agree with all of this. I'm sure the Lions share this exact same mentality. I just don't think that it will be spent on a 1st rounder this year. But, this is Mayhew we're talking about so anything is possible.

Reading between the lines, CB continues to be our no.1 priority. Has been since the year the Lions tried to trade up to the 5 spot with AZ and take Patrick Peterson. Continues to be as the Lions CB's had 2 whole INT last year.

IF there is a top 10 worthy CB there and I think there will be, I think they snag him. Amukamara was not that guy. I think Dennard is that guy this year. More importantly, I feel like that's what the Lions think too.

Here's my stance. If Watkins is there at #10, I hope we take him. If not, I hope we can trade down and land Evans. Those are really the only wrs I would want to see the Lions take. Simply bc those are the only ones I could see being an eventual #1 WR. I like Matthews a lot, but I can't see him ever being anything more than a #2, not that there's anything wrong with that.

However, CJ is no spring chicken and his body is already being beat the fuck up. I don't wanna wait til CJ is "washed up" to find his replacement. I would like to give that replacement time to learn and grow alongside CJ, like what Alshon is doing with Marshall(best duo in NFL imo).

But, if neither of those moves are possible, we still need a young productive WR to help take some slack off of CJ. So if we land someone via FA or on the 2nd or 3rd day of draft, so be it. As long as they help keep CJ healthier. We've all seen what our O looks like without him in it.

Sounds weird to say but I fully agree with Microwahevo.

Watkins is a flat out no brainer pick at #10. Evans is interesting , "MAYBE" even at #10 cause dude looks like beast. The problem is this, this particular draft is LOADED at WR. Davante Adams, Matthews, Beckham, Landry, Moncrief, Robinson, B.Cooks. Sooooooo many talented wideouts. Why waste a top #10 pick on a WR if it's not Sammy Watkins?

Dennard would play up close to the line of scrimmage. That is what the Lions need. A CB that can jam receivers and make the QB hold on to the ball a second or two longer and let Ansah and others get a chance to reach him.

I'm a MI fan but I watched every Sparty game this year because I respect that pro style D they play (same D the Hawks play). It was highly impressive. This coming from a dyed in the wool MI fan. I watched, wanting to find something, anything to tear down. And I couldn't. Bring that shit to the D, please.

When you can got man to man on the outside, jam the WR's, and put everyone up into the box, there's not a lot a team can do to you on offense.

This is why the shitty ass Rams keep upsetting Bress and the Saints since Fisher became their HC. Janoris Jenkins is the guy the Lions needed that year and they got scared.

With all due respect to Sparty's defense, I would argue that it wasn't the CB play that drove the defense. They did play a lot of man and they did jam a lot of WR's but they also committed a ton of PI's. Some might even say that it is Dantonio's philosophy that the amount of flags the zebras will throw for PI is not unlimited. I am definitely biased but I think Dennard relies too much on his hands and not enough on his legs and hips to be an elite CB in the NFL.

We will have to respectively disagree on this. It's my opinion that Sparty is powered by their CB's. Not too many teams college or pro can play man to man like that with their corners, every game, all year long. Would kill to see MI be able to do that.

During the NBC broadcast, color analyst Mike Mayock spent several minutes grousing about the call afterwards, and longtime referee and Twitter enthusiast Mike Pereira was also less than enthused with the flag:

Mike Pereira @MikePereira Follow >>Those that didn't like the PI call in the ND game, I don't blame you. I am on your side. Not enough restriction for a foul.

A guy with a tendency to draw flags coupled with Detroit's reputation could be troublesome. I wouldn't take him, especially at #10. I like Gilbert better because of his athleticism but I wouldn't take him either at #10 because there is just too much risk.

Sort of agree with this comment. Dennard is very physical going for the ball and a lot of plays that weren't flagged in college, will be flagged in the NFL.

I disagree in regards to his hips and feet. The only thing that Dennard may lack from the other top CBs is straight line speed. I don't think he is going to be a 4.4 guy, but he makes up for it with his physical play and intelligence (kind of a smaller version of Sherman).

The clutching and grabbing he got away with in college though is going to be called in the NFL. That is my biggest issue with Dennard.

Of course it was the CB play that drives MSU's defense. They put their CBs on an island in man coverage and put basically 9 in the box and dare you to try and beat them with deep throws.

It is why they are so good against the run, as they always have guys who are unblocked attacking the ball.

I read today -- teams attempted 31 passes over 15 yards against Dennard this past year. They completed 3 of 31. That is SICK. When you have a CB who can shut down half the field like that -- it frees up the rest of the defense.

Well, Caldwell has a pretty good reputation but I unless Suh gets a PR makeover, I think it will remain. Regardless, if the team can draft a productive LB they can be a very good defense if the have even an average secondary. Unfortunately, that would be a huge upgrade from last year.

It's amazing the things you can learn here.

(1) Marshall and Jefferey are the top WR duo in the league.
(2) The Lions biggest weakness is CB.
(3) The Lions went 2-0 against the Bears.
(4) The Lions need to spend their #10 pick on a WR.

I swear, it must be the Millen effect.

Regarding Suh's extension

They had a video on CBS today where an agent talks about Suh's situation with the Lions. He said for the Lions to re-sign him, they basically have to give him a blank check and have him fill it out on what it will take to keep him.

He said -- if Suh was drafted one year later, his contract would have been for 21 million over 5 years, instead of looking at a season where his cap hit for one year that is more than that contract.

Lastly, he stated if Suh had been drafted a year later, he'd be looking at the same deal Atkins signed, roughly 11 million a year. Because of the huge cap hit, Suh has all the leverage, just like Calvin had when he signed his extension and he said if the Lions want to re-sign Suh, they will be looking at paying him as one of the highest paid defensive players regardless of position.

Ugh -- the Lions are in a terrible spot here. I don't want to see Suh on another team, but I don't want the Lions to vastly overpay and suffer elsewhere for a DT.
