Is this based on anything at all? Fawking Jonathan Cooper has never played a single NFL snap and he's a top-20 guard and better than Sims? Long is better because he made the Pro Bowl as a bullshit injury replacement? Suh absolutely abused the kid this last season.
How many posters would trade Sims for Jonathon Cooper straight up right now???

That's a fantastic argument against Long. His pro bowl selection is bullshit because he was an injury replacement hey? Perhaps that spot should have gone to Rob Sims? I guess the rest of the football world doesn't see him as the above average guard you think he is since I didn't see him in Hawaii.

Show me how he is anything but average. See how that works?

This one isn't a fact based issue that you can prove one way or the other. The premise of my initial statement was that making certain cuts would position the Lions in a way to try and help with an overwhelming cap problem. I think you could very easily replace Sims and the carry forward cap space is the benefit that makes it worthwhile to do so.

Average last year, better before that. Like I keep saying, if average is his floor, that's not bad. Maybe he could easily be replaced, maybe not.

What color is the fucking sky in Homerville? You are telling us that he is an above average G. You think the above average play for cheap contracts? Why don't the Lions sign him to an extension right now then if he is willing to work a cap friendly deal? They could save cap space, which they could roll over to 2015 and Sims would actually end up getting more $ this year. That's a win/win for both sides and could be handled in about an hour. For a self proclaimed homer you sure are reaching deep into IdontknowwhatthefuckI'mtalkingaboutland.

What he said:

Guard Rob Sims: 'I pray' to avoid free agency, finish career as L | ChatLions.com

He's stated he wants to retire a Lion and that his next contract doesn't have to be mind blowing. He'd even take a home-town discount. He's happy with how his family is set up and stated he's not a greedy guy.

I don't see a reason to cut him when he's been solid, even if last years injuries hurt his play a bit. It's obvious he's not looking for big money.

Please tell me what stiff argument you have offered other than your traditional "I'm an unrealistic homer" bullshit. Your rankings show him to be average last season but he is paid well above average.
He has the 23rd highest salary in the league, per Sportrac. Again, lets look at the numbers- if 23rd is well above average then we have a fundamental disagreement of what well above average is or isn't.

You are trying to go back two seasons to say he ranked out well that year. Well we were in the playoffs the 2011-12 season and 11-21 since. Schwartz should have kept his job then right? Because only two seasons ago he had us in the playoffs and that is the exact premise of your argument on Sims level of play, what he's done in the past.
A.) Playoffs were 3 seasons ago, Sims played well 2 seasons ago and 3 seasons ago.
B.) Schwartz was far more responsible for our under-achieving results than Rob Sims was.
C.) Much easier for a single player to be consistent year to year than it is for a whole team to do so.

While you flap your gums on here with statements about posters making "nonsense exaggerations" its your Honolulu blue glasses that keep your from realizing its you making those non-sensical statements.
Speculative... based on your opinion only.

Highest drafted gaurd in 27 years. 4 year 14.55mil contract though. We wouldn't save enough money to sign any shitdick scrub secondary guys. (Not sure what my opinion was on drafting him. Probably better than it was on drafting Ansah. Luckily CBS deleted all of that goodness.).

Yes. I'm not the only one who thinks that. Warford got hosed, he was drastically better, but fan voting got fucking Kyle Long in there. This is actually a whole separate issue. Long is an over-rated bitch propped up by idiots like Pete Prisco.

Perhaps that spot should have gone to Rob Sims?
No.

I guess the rest of the football world doesn't see him as the above average guard you think he is since I didn't see him in Hawaii.
So then every player that doesn't make the vaunted Pro Bowl sucks?

Here, I'll show you how it's done......Ryan Rabun sucks!!!!! I don't need a stat showing me otherwise....If you want to go find one and type 20-30 lines why he doesn't more power to you, but he still sucks.....I don't need stats.

I'm not talking about "at some point" I'm talking about a whopping two seasons ago. Last year he was average
No, last year he was not average. Ranked #49 out of 64 starting guards in the league is not average, its well below average. Thats bottom quartile but consistent with your inability to call out any starter on this team as anything but average or higher.

So, therefore, his $3.75 million cap numbers is well above his talent level?
Apparently so. I already told you that the average of his contract ranks 21st in the league for his position but you showed us he ranked in the bottom quartile. He is paid near the top of the second quartile.

You told me to look at the numbers, but you also don't seem to realize that every player who isn't a star doesn't necessarily play for $1 million a season. Good players make better money than average players.
Do not fucking tell me what I know about how players are paid in this league. Sims is the eighth highest paid Lions player. There is a business side of this game that is just as important. You clearly don't get that because you would never cut anyone other than bottom feeder scrubs. There are very clear risks with Sims, not the least of which is his most recent play. The fact is that despite an article that suits you because its the angle you want to take here he may not resign with the Lions. He has only one year left on his contract and this would be the perfect time to get that done, especially since the article you think is golden says he wants to do that and will cut us a great deal. Add to that the Lions could free up space and carry that over and there is even more benefit to doing so, but that hasnt happened. How about you give us a good reason as to why that doesnt make perfect sense from both the roster talent and business side as to why it hasnt if Sims is such a good player?

Your personal opinion aside, Sims is a good guard.
Your opinion aside that every Lions player is a god among men he was good two years ago but sucked balls last year.

Under $4 million per season for a good guard isn't that unreasonable.
Not for a good guard, Sims simply isnt in that category

Ranked 49th in 2013.

Long is an over-rated bitch propped up by idiots like Pete Prisco.
Perhaps you are correct, but the fact is the very article you posted to support your case ranks him a lot higher than Sims and Long's name only got mentioned when you ask for guards who I thought was better than Sims.

We spent a third rd pick on Swanson. You have defended Mayhew in the past. If he is a good GM then like Warford, he should be able to step into that role and effectively replace a guy ranked #49 last year at his position. When you look at the risk perspective of perhaps not being able to resign him and the benefit of a nice amount of rollover cap space (something I think the Lions will need badly) it makes sense to either immediately sign an extension or to release him.

Put Levy in this equation and tell me the results???

When you are done with those findings...insert Houston also, probably look backwards in results.

Levy? He was a young LB with great athletic ability who was simply average for his first few years and really seemed to put it all together last year.

Houston had some solid years for us and was an adequate starter, but his play took a nose-dove last year (drastically worse than Sims' dip in play)

No need for all the fluff. The answer was in first couple sentences.

Ranked 49th in 2013.
This is bleacher report we're talking about, not exactly a comprehensive ranking. I linked that article because it specifically had the phrase "still a pretty good guard" in their summary.

Did one of my top 5 posters from this board mention "Bleacher Report".

I thought any writers/articles from "Bleacher Report" weren't worthy of mentioning.
