Bethea cut. Another non-shocker event.
I just saw an ESPN headline that Bethea asked for his release.

We get Cousins plus #17 for #2?
Ordinarily i'd do this deal, because it is hard to obtain a good QB. IMO Cousins isn't an "elite" QB, but he is certainly good in Shanahan's scheme. HOWEVER, the 49ers hold all the leverage over the Redskins, so we could hold out for a 'steal'.
We have real hard luck with this #2 pick, there is no top QB prospect nor top EDGE guy. sigh!
Regardless, I hope the 49ers draft a QB for the future.Wished the Niners have the top pick. It would Myles Garrett, a no brainer. I agree that the Niners have the leverage and they could just wait until next year to sign him without switching draft pick position. They are still in the process of acquiring more talent and waiting one year will not hurt a bit.
Still thinking about it, lol? If the 49ers can'tland Garrett, it might not be too bad. Not sure there is a huge difference this year between the top ten picks and the those picks in the teens.
I agree. No way for 2nd pick straight up. Can't blame them for asking but it would be foolish for them to stick to that asking price. It is a deep draft so the Niners would still get a very good player at #17. There have been different reports that Washington want the #2 pick for Cousins, straight up. No way I would do that deal.
Another scenario would have the Redskins and the Niners swap first round picks for Cousin. A difference of 15 slots. I would consider it since Cousins is further along that the top three QBs in this draft.

Yea. He was horrible from day one and never got better. One of the worst centers in the league and crappy at guard too. A turnstile. Brandon Thomas and Marcus Martin were supposed to be the 49ers future on the oline. Baalke whiffed on thosepicksIn case you guys haven't heard, Marcus Martin's been released. Another high pick wasted.
Report: 49ers, Jets showing strong interest in Brian Hoyer
Niners interested in Brian Hoyer. This would make sense which means he could be a bridge while the Niners try to find their franchise QB.
There have also been "rumors" that the Redskins swap first round picks and Niners received Cousins. Redskins get the #2 pick and the Niners get #17 pick. Would this be a good trade for the Niners if it came to fruition?

Baalke struck out so much on so many draft picks. He was pathetic. Glad to see Lynch doing "spring cleaning." As previously reported, Bethea requested to be released, but the other playes just did not fit into the regime's plans. I just wonder who else will released. Drain the "Baalke swamp"!!!
They signed Hoyer. I really hope this means they aren't entertaining the thought of trading the #2 pick for Cousins. Either draft a QB with the pick or get one in the 2nd round. Then he can sit the year.
Edit: Signed WR Marquise Goodwin as well.

I hope so. I think that would be a good range for what is out there. If Trubisky were to fall to the 2nd round, I would snag him with a #2Yeah, can't help think they'll draft a QB in the Round 3 to Round 5 range? Depending who they sign in free agency, i'd even draft two QB's should solid value arise.
Just my guess.

We won't have to give the Skins anything for Cousins next year. This year is the Skins' chance to get something for him. That chance won't be here next year b/c the Skins won't franchise tag him again and even if they use the transition tag, we'll be able to structure a deal they can't match--either way, we get him in 2018 without having to give away a draft pick.I think so. The 49ers can get Cousins next year possibly for a conditional 2nd round pick. I don't think this will preclude getting Cousins, but it does mean goodbye to Gabbert and Ponder
