All about the Ducks

5 canadas, 7 snows, 5 guys, 1 dog (the one with the grey, lol), 3 puppies and one 5 year old braggin about all the birds in the air...now that we know where the "X" is, the full spread goes out tommorrow. Only 2 weeks left in duck season and they were all over the place with the geese. Its about the green tommorrow.

DaBums--what kind of shot do you use for ducks? I use #2 Fasteel 3.5 inch. Curious if I should be shooting a lower size shot?

for almost 10 years now, for ducks, its only #3's for me, balistic tests come up with #3's that have the most pellets that hit a "duck" target at 40 yards.

When we went to Canada, we never even pulled the BB's out for geese. We all used 3's the entire time. I get all #3's but will get a few boxes of BB's for Canada's in Missouri, just because they are Greater Canada's in missouri. Shot 3 Canada's over 12 lbs yesterday, only 2 feet off the decoys at 20 yrds and still able to use the #3's.

2 guys, 2 hrs and 20 min, 6 canadas, 3 snows, 2 red legged mallards and 1 11 yr old dog that just doesn't care about pictures anymore. You can see the handy work, sort of, of the ice eater in the backround. If you have open water right now, they are yours and we are one of the very few other than the Missouri River, Power plants and very big lakes.

2 3/4 to 3.5 inch, doesn't matter, but #3's are the important part...started with Kent FastSteel because they were the first to have #3's consistantly but now all of them carry #3's regularly.

personally, my gun only shoots 3 inch, so I shoot 3 inch, lol, and definately hit just as many birds as the 3.5ers, but then, I am the shot caller.

I have got banded mallards, canadas and wood ducks through the year but have shot more snows than all of them combined and FINALLY got my first banded snow goose tuesday...

10 yr old bird, banded of all places and the first one I have gotten banded in the south, Galveston Texas...took it off and put it on my mounted snow goose.

lol, thats "through the years" not year...like 20 plus years of hunting.

Got shut out on a blue sky day yesterday. Saw 150 Canvasbacks but no luck. Had over 90 decoys out and nothing. DaBums, what is your idea weather pattern to Duck hunt? I like it overcast but wondered if you have an opinion on weather fronts, temperature, rain/snow, etc.?

ducks, snow, rain or fog are great or cold, sunny days - snows, cloudy, lower ceiling and earlier return to water, much easier since we went to marshes over fields- canadas, cold sunny days, water only, cold crappy days just stay home.

ok, too cold today, watched birds land in the decoys from the truck too much today...the heater just felt too good.
