With Mike's track record of drafting running backs ... how would you feel about trading Morris to acquire additional draft picks ?

:feedback:

I'd be all for it honestly. I'd do it for a first rounder in a heart beat.

You remember what year Portis was in when Mike traded him ?

You absolutely take a 1st rounder for Morris. As good as he is, good RBs are a dime a dozen. Peterson is the only RB in the league right now worth a 1st round pick.

Portis had to be mid 20s when he came here. He had been in the league for maybe 4 years, I'd guess.

Not sure anybody would trade a first rounder for Morris, but if they did, I'd be all for it. Developing a sure fire running game is about the only guarantee you can get from shanty these days...

Ok what team would give a 1st rounder for morris ? you know the dime a dozen RBs you can trip over and get 1000 yds from

why do people insist on trading our best assets? we could have royster and helu as the starters next season by giving up Morris we done that already :omg:

Morris is a proven , young rb who is a core team player and a model citizen . KEEP HIM and develop OUR PICKS

DAMN show some patience and understand we have plenty of resources and picks for next season and stop weakening other positions to attempt to fix others

It's not giving up on Morris and it's not a lack of patience. It's all about believing Shanahan can make 1000 yard rushers...and he can. It's all about trusting in Helu, who is a more complete back.

Nobody is saying somebody would give us a first...we are saying if one was offered, you take it.

hogwash , there is no reason to entertain trading him especially for a mythical 1ST rounder which no one would offer

and even if offered one i would think long and hard before doing it . shanny could be sitting at home before he gets a shot at drafting another RB

this past offseason the board had a debate about whether helu could even make the roster because he was an injury prone bust

now he is the more complete back savior we can rely for full time duty ?

i know i said over and over that helu would be fine and i was ridiculed for it but now he will step right in and we forget all about morris ?

trading him is all about giving up on him , it says "hey al , we can get helu or another obscure draft pick to do your job better "

because why would you take a strong position weaker in order to hopefully get something better somewhere else ?

Seriously Dad, chill out! I didn't say trade him. The hypothetical question was asked and I answered it. No one is saying trade the guy. Of course Morris is a proven back, that wasn't the question!

Skins dad:

As I posted previously, shanny is almost a luck to find a late round back to run for 1000 yds. It's what he do.

Orlandis Gary, mike Anderson, McGahee (I think), Portis, Alfred Morris, etc.

If somebody offered a first rounder for him, though I think The Butler is an excellent player, the would be no reason to not entertain that offer...

Morris is one of the few guys we don't need to worry about. This teams weaknesses are at other positions. I wouldn't trade him for a first btw.

I wouldn't trade him, either. I don't even see how this became a conversation in the first place. :noidea:

Morris and our running game IS the primary reason we see success. Why the hell would you trade a strong spot on this team for a "what if" scenario? If we had an amazing passing game, I'd understand this type of talk better.

Because I never said to trade him. I said if anyone was to ever offer us a 1st, you have to take it. As others have pointed out, Shanahan has a history of making late round pick RBs into Pro Bowl players. Of course they are all talented, but the scheme is very RB friendly. But no one is ever going to offer us a 1st for a RB so it was all hypothetical. In fact, there are only a handful of players on this team that I wouldn't trade for a 1st.

But the fact is I'm a huge Morris fan (look at my avatar) and believe he is a top 5 RB, maybe only behind Peterson.

i didnt say you said trade him . i answered the question given under no uncertain terms . you dont trade him at this point not even for a 1st rounder given the reasons i stated above to include shanahan may not be around in the future

Those who have said you trade him for a first, we say this because we believe RBs are made by scheme usually and can be replaced reasonably easy.

I think Morris is great in this scheme but would flounder elsewhere. I think he would flounder without the threat of RG3.

My question is this...let's say you don't trade him at any point, do you resign him at 8 million/year because that's what it will cost...at a minimum.
