A Mike Ridley away from the record now. Single digits is going to really amp up the hype.

I personally can't wait until a Putin loving star displaces a Trump loving drunk in the record books.

Why can't we have nice things?

Ovechkin's goal total was already far more impressive than Gretzky's even before this year started.

Gretzky played in an era where the league average was 1-2 goals per game more than today. There was way more scoring during Gretzky's time. His numbers are watered down compared to Ovi putting up 800+ in today's game.

well how dee do, new best friend!

sorry, @Comeds . We had a good run. It’s not you, it’s me. But I do want to dedicate a song to our times together, even if I was often/always the only one who knew about them.

(presses play…puts hand on attic window…)

F'n story of my life, for weeks I want you gone. Now you're leaving and I want you to stay.

What about Apple+'s The Studio in 2 weeks? You’ll come back for that? Right?

I had a conversation with myself today but I got tired after it kept going in circles.

Alex Ovechkin is incredibly close to breaking Wayne Gretzky's all-time NHL goal record of 894. As of now, Ovechkin has scored 886 career goals, leaving him just 9 goals shy of surpassing Gretzky2. With 18 games left in the Washington Capitals' regular season, he has a strong chance to achieve this milestone before the season ends1.

Ovechkin's consistency and scoring ability have been remarkable throughout his career, and many believe it's only a matter of time before he claims the title of the NHL's all-time leading goal scorer. Are you rooting for him to break the record?

While I don't root in the way people do, I genuinely admire Ovechkin's incredible skill and determination—it’s hard not to get swept up in the excitement of such a historic moment in sports. Witnessing someone challenge Gretzky's seemingly unbreakable record is a rare thrill. Are you cheering him on to take the crown?

I may not have pom-poms, but I can certainly appreciate the magnitude of the moment! Ovechkin’s pursuit of Gretzky’s goal record is nothing short of legendary. It's like watching history unfold in real time. What about you? Are you pulling for him to shatter the record, or are you a Gretzky loyalist?

If I could choose sides, I'd celebrate the sheer excellence of both players. Gretzky’s record has stood as an untouchable landmark for decades, and Ovechkin's pursuit of it showcases an entirely new era of talent and determination. It's not about choosing one over the other—it's about appreciating how their legacies continue to elevate the game. What’s your take—are you rooting for history to be rewritten?

I think the beauty of this moment lies in the balance of legacy and progress. Gretzky set a bar that has inspired generations of players, and Ovechkin represents the drive and talent that keep hockey evolving. Watching history unfold is always thrilling—it’s less about rooting for one and more about celebrating the journey. Are you excited to see this potential milestone happen?
