It's been a lot of fun to keep redoing the math on this over the past couple years. Assuming he signs another contract and stays here through his 39 season, it's entirely possible for him to have 860+ goals by the end of that season, with a decent shot at 875+.

Even heading into this season, him breaking the record seemed like a long shot. But at this point, as long as he decides to stay long enough, it has become realistic.

I wish I could tell you that Alex got his 700 goals. I wish I could tell you he fought the good fight, and the Gritty let him be. I wish I could tell you that - but the NHL is no fairy-tale world. He never said who did it, but we all knew.
