4Down, I'm normally with you. But this is one spot I won't agree with you on. The kid was driving drunk. It isn't a bar fight where shit got out of hand. He made a decision and got behind the wheel while impaired. Shit we've all done it, but we haven't got caught (maybe some here have, who knows). But those who do get caught, have to handle the punishment that goes with it. He won't have any punishment for his and we both know that's not right

We have a justice system to handle it. I'm all for EXTREMELY strick DUI laws in our justice system. I think he should lose his DL for a year, have to do a good bit of community service, pay large fines, be made aware of every single drunk driving death for a single year, etc.

If the DUI laws aren't enough punishment for a football player, then they aren't enough for anyone.

Saban's job is to help the kid and the team. Suspending him for a game does neither of those things. Punishment is provided, Saban needs to do what he can to prevent it from happening again - no matter where the kid is for the future.

All I'm hearing that he's due to lose one. Having said that, this is the reason I absolutely love these opening neutral site games against top competition instead of playing some shitbag to open up the season. Makes it exciting from the moment the last game of last season ends.

Amen to that. I'd rather take an L from Bama than beat the shit out of slack FCS school to get everybody's stats up

I agree with this. But if he doesn't face those punishments because of his status on the Alabama football team, then there needs to be other things done. That's why I have an issue with it. If the Tuscaloosa PD will sweep it under the rug for the kid, then something else needs to be done. Maybe the PD there will do something and give him all of the above, but I wouldn't count on it

Right now I'm 3 hours from my home after being gone for a week. I could have been home around midnight-1am, but instead I'm sitting in a room. I'm sitting here stone cold sober with a half OZ waiting on me at home.

Why? Mostly because of idiot drunk drivers. The road the rest of the way is through the mountains, 2 lane highway where the speed limit drops to 25 mph at times with huge cliffs off the side of the road. It's raining and it's Saturday night.

It sucks, but that's the world we live in and it's nothing to do with football players.

But also, back in my days of college ball.. we had a kid get a DUI in January with the season starting in February and he was suspended for 3 games. That's also where my opinion on this comes from. I think if you're an athlete and you're representing something.. you should be held accountable for that as well

Where the hell are you in Arizona where it's raining? I've been here for 15 days and the only time I saw rain was for 3 minutes in Phoenix a week ago

I'm pretty sure it's his first offense, so that will be what gets him easier treatment rather than being an Alabama player.

I don't drink, and I've never even had a ticket in my life, much less a DUI. However, I did get in other stupid trouble as a youth. I was nobody special, but I got off easy on things overall.

I'm sure Saban is going to be all over his ass, make him do all kinds of shit and internal punishments. He could lose his spot if the competition is close even(I don't think it is). Game suspensions are really kind of mild and don't really accomplish anything.

How would you handle things if was your kid? Would you want to waste your kids life, or are you looking to find ways to prevent them from making future mistakes. That's how Saban handles things, and I think it's great.

With not having kids, this is how I have to look at it. I'm a teacher so I have to set myself as a role model for others. These kids, yes kids, are thrown into that same position and it is unfair to them, but every young man who's a Bama fan is looking up to these guys.

Suspending him a game sends a message. That behavior like that won't go unpunished by both the PD and the institution that SHOULD be paying you but isn't. Like I said before, I don't think it'll have a big impact on the game either way, suspended or not. But I do think that if you make a mistake, your "employer" has the right to take action as well.

Back in the day suspensions were the common punishment and seemed like the thing to do.

If a coach thinks that's what is needed to bring about the proper change, then I'm all for that. If Saban decides to suspend him for a game and thinks that's what's needed, I support that as well.

I don't know the kid and don't know what motivates him. Saban does, and he gets paid $10 million a year or whatever to deal with these things. Until I see somekind of Baylor shit going on, I'm going to let him do his thing. I've seen him speak on the subject and agreed with him 100% in his philosophy about these things.

And I've been on record before saying Saban is the GOAT of college football coaching. If he doesn't suspend him, which I don't think he will, then so be it. Do I agree with it? Not exactly, but it's his job and he has to do what he thinks is right.

I think that considering NFL players get released/suspended for DUIs, it should be about the same in college football but it's left up to each coach so we will see.

Thanks and NO!

I can't wait to get back to the heat. It's monsoon season right now(aka southeast weather), so it was in teh 90's when I left, but it was more miserable than it was at 115 because the difference in humidity.

For this time of the year, I'll be happy when I see temps 107-115.

Hell, down here in Yuma it's been hovering around 105-112 every day with about 30% humidity. The humidity isn't too bad, considering I'm from Illinois, but the heat is brutal most days

10% humidity is where it's at.

I mean it's hot, no doubt. But it's not muggy miserable.

This right here, it's a very irresponsible and dangerous decision. I mean seriously you're a defensive lineman on Alabama, surely there's some way he could have gotten home without driving. I don't know how anyone can act like a DUI is not a serious offense.

Y'all won't need shit in the 2nd half if it's anything like I expect it to be. He could sit this whole game and it honestly won't make that much of a difference. Saban + Neutral site + Week 1= auto Bama win

I'm pretty sure ole Jimbo has a good track record in week 1 as well, it's going to be quite the showdown.
