I’m stunned that the Mariners are in 1st right now - no one on the team has a very good batting average. I have no doubt the Astros will overtake them in the West standings before long but it’s surprising the M’s are above 500 with their lineup.

Really good and deep pitching can help offset that.

But yeah it looks like the Stros have righted the ship and if the M's don't start scoring they will be caught soon. And praying for one of the two catchable WC spots.

And Seattle is fading. I’m thinking by 8/15 Astros have a multiple game lead on the AL West

to be fair, he entered the month hitting .261/.336/.506 (140 wRC+). Quite good, but not that eye popping. Tough sledding with the AL OF (Soto and Judge, particularly) and DH (Yordan Alvarez has been one of the best hitters in MLB since his callup, and he's having another strong season), and playing in Oakland does no favors. He should be an All-Star, but his season wasn't that great until the last few weeks.

That reasoning makes zero sense considering every year is different. The Rangers played like the best team when it counted most.
