At least he got one last HR as a Red Sox vs the Yankees today

I don't HATE the prospect of moving him, but he's been their best hitter and they're already down Bregman. Not sure what they see in Jordan Hicks, he's a pitcher with a 6+ ERA in one of the most pitcher friendly ballparks. He sucks. Kyle Harrison intrigues me. Not sure what the two minor leaguers they're getting are, or how much money is involved.

The timing is just insane

Holy shit, that’s a huge trade. How do you feel about that as a Red Sox fan? It didn’t look like the Sox were going anywhere this season but trading away their best hitter when they a game above 500 is huge. Seems like they are kind of giving up on the season.

Maybe they asked him about the position again

The Sox have been off to a disappointing start, but they've got themselves a game above .500 now and aside from the NYY/DET/HOU I don't think the rest of the AL is all that good. I think this team could still make a realistic playoff run, but without Bregman and now Devers it's hard to feel good about the offense at all.

This is just batshit

One of the prospects the Sox got is an OF, because the outfield isn't crowded already. He's their #4 prospect per FanGraphs (as a 45 FV prospect), and the pitcher is a 20 year old in the lower levels who ranks 22nd in the Giants system.

I agree it’s crazy. I am puzzled as to why the Sox made the trade, like I say it seems like they are just giving up on their season when they are above 500 and had a chance at making the postseason. I agree the AL isn’t that deep or strong and the Sox had a legit chance at the postseason, makes it look like they are just giving up.

Red Sox get tired of his shit? The Sox traded Nomar in '04 because some thought him to be a club house cancer.

Devers did look very lackadaisical "running" that first GIDP out, I didn't see the second. But we're talking about a guy with a 149 OPS+ (even with the bad five games to start the season everyone was spazzing out about) and was signed to a massive extension after the Mookie/Bogaerts fiascos. This is just a giant fuck you to a fanbase after a rather underwhelming period from 2019-2025, save for one fluky 2021 ALCS run. This is also a giant fuck you after failing to extend said players. Not saying he isn't a clubhouse cancer (he very well could be), but the return is just so underwhelming. The only one I don't hate in it is Harrison. Not getting Eldridge out of this is insane

I thought this was a Onion report. Odd that he played today.

Must have transpired throughout the game/afterwards. Maybe the GIDP was a final straw, or something happened in the dugout?

Passan and Heyman are making it sound like Devers wanted out

That was a big kerfuffle over the Betts trade, the return. Most fans thought the Sox could have got more that Verdugo and Wong. That trade looks like a King's ransom compared. They dealt Devers to the team with arguably the worst farm in MLB. So now, it's looking like a salary dump

Don't forget Jeter Downs.... lol

Verdugo put up less WAR from 2020-2023 than Betts did in 2023 alone

If this is a salary dump, there will probably be a 99% possibility of Bregman opting out after this year. The Red Sox are rapidly turning into the fucking Pirates. Betts, Xander, Devers, all given away. Beginning to think John Henry cares more about Liverpool than the Sox.
