next rays aceZunino's 2017 feels like a fluke (and his .355 BABIP was well above his career norm of .272). Still a good defender and pitch framer, but it's hard to see him being much more than an average hitting catcher at this point. Dude has a lifetime K% of 34.2% over 2087 PA now. It was 37% last year. oh yeah, and a career .276 OBP is pretty abysmal (.259 last year).
Mallex probably will see some BABIP regression himself as well, but he has the kind of speed to sustain a good BABIP and his 2018 slash line is somewhat identical to his career minor league line. I'd rather have Mallex going forward.
The Smith/Zunino deal is official. Looks like a win for the Mariners to me.
Yankees just signed former Sox uber prospect Ryan Lavarnway to a minor league deal.
Down38 would be so pleased.

Great guy, clubhouse glue and all that happy horseshit, but if he can't get through the 4th inning on a semi-regular basis then I don't see this as a huge boost.
Need to re-sign Happ, lock down Corbin, and try to pry one of those Indian pitchers loose.
Ohtani rookie of the year. Andujar . . . . Robbed.
FIFY
I really thought andujar would win, especially due to ohtani's injury. The people on that other board are now telling me ohtani was always a lock. Hmmmmmm.
I guess playing 104 games, pitching and DH'ing was enough.....Maybe they are making up for Matsui not winning......I had a bad feeling when BA named him their ROY. "Japanese Babe Ruth " hype coupled with anti-Yankee bias did make it a lock evidently.
Looking at their stats side by side, it's hard to see any justification, but it wasn't a close vote.

I know, was being sarcastic.....The hype train was too much to over come this time......Right, but back then, all we heard was "Come on, Matsui's not really a rookie"
Funny how the perspective has changed now.
Andujar may not have even been the best rookie on his own team. Torres only had an OPS+ 8 points lower and unlike Andujar, he can actually field his damn position (and a tougher one at that). Torres edged him out in WAR by nearly a win despite playing 26 fewer games. As for Ohtani, his OPS+ was 26 points higher than Andujar (granted with fewer PA) and he threw 51 innings of 3.31 ERA ball.
