5 years left for $162M……good luck

Perfect length.

All of our talent is young and cheap. Have to replace Gray.

Vazquez at $20 mil for 2 more years is the bigger inconvenience because they will tell themselves he has to be on the roster instead of talent in the minors.

Hopefully he can stay healthy which is a huge issue……

Allowed them to take a swing on deals like that.

And it’s been a solid deal based off need and club direction for the duration (if they would just stop batting him 4th out of contract stipulation).
3 years from now: “Correa traded to Yankees”. Lol.

That’s a killer. He really was the best player on the team for much of the season.

Fucking hell. At least there's options (Abreu, Rafaela) but he was one of the more exciting players on the Sox this season.

Blue Jays are so cooked.

Basically the AL West is playing for the division then strategically tanking to try and get Twins.

You guys think they keep him around??
I think they might really consider moving on from him this Winter. Something has been “off” with him all year. I would almost say he seems disinterested a lot of the time. That’s not a good adjective to use for your manager.

Yeah I dont watch the ins and outs of Sox games to know his true managing this year. But ive gotten a similar vibe when I do follow Sox stuff. Whether its making news for the Baraclough slaughter or the weird Verlander spat or just simple arguing calls/a game. Things have seemed a little odd with him from a casual view.

But its kinda interesting because its not like they had massive expectations this season so hes also not underperforming really. Team actually has been relatively impressive a lot of the year.

I think it's been a mix of him making questionable decisions, the relievers not performing (the "good" ones pitched last night and sucked) and the starters being incapable of going even 5 innings, exhausting the bullpen.

I'd agree. It felt like a team that would win around 78-84 games and could make the playoffs if enough things broke in their favor. The pitching has looked improved for the most part, but the rotation has dealt with various injuries (not exactly unexpected either) and the Red Sox have been a pretty lousy defensive team. It hasn't been uncommon for the Sox to shoot themselves in the foot once or twice defensively and it turns into a shitshow of an inning.

I do have optimism going into 2024 with the farm system's talent finally making it to the upper levels, but the Sox do need to shore up the rotation.

Martian's AA stats aren't particularly great at first glance, but he hit .333/.401/.494 from July 1st to August 20th prior to his AAA promotion.
