I've been watching the Sox and a few other teams here and there, but I haven't paid too much attention.

Wade had a nice AAA season last year, but is the power outbreak legit? He hit .310/.382/.460 there, but he never slugged higher than .349 outside of that and never had an ISO north of .100 outside of AAA. The contact rates and steals are interesting though.

Ive always heard him described as a "Ben Zobrist type", or that's how the Yankees viewed him

Dont think they have Gleyber Torres type hope for him, but he's been talked about as a super utility type

His first go round in the bigs was dreadful last season, even in the field, which wasnt supposed to be a problem.....Glad he's getting another shot, that sample was too small

Nasty

Tyler Wade has so obviously become a huge favorite of Boone, already talking about a straight up platoon with Walker at 2nd, and even seeing AB's at 3rd base

Have a feeling he may be the everyday guy at some point, with Walker spelling Bird and being a super utility type guy

Not just Boone. Cashman believes he's going to evolve into a Ben Zobrist type, which I read as him being the super-utility, but ultimately that's Boone's call, as it should be.

So as of right now, it looks like Drury/Walker/Wade/Torreyes are all making the team. Figure Drury is going to be the everyday 3B (even though he's much better at 2nd) . I wonder how long Torreyes is going to be around for.

Zobrist showed more BA/OBP abilities. Wade put up some solid OBPs in the minors, but nothing like Zobrist did where Zobrist had more walks than strikeouts. To be fair, Zobrist was a much older prospect. Just not sure that's a good comp either way

Haven't been watching spring training much. Has he been any good?

Really good. He's stinging the ball and playing good D. In other words, does not remotely resemble the guy we saw flailing away for most of September last year.

Of course, John Valentin had a career minor league line of .245/.334/.366 (though he did hit .264/.374/.438 in Pawtucket) and he turned into a very solid player (.279/.360/.454, 32.5 WAR in only 1105 games).

It's a testament to their depth that a guy like Torreyes, who is versatile, hit 290, got plenty of big hits last year and doesn't get rusty with long lay offs could conceivably get pushed out.

it's also a testament to how empty Torreyes' BA was. Despite hitting .292, he had a .314 OBP and had minimal power.

Sometimes it clicks when they make the jump.

Don Mattingly was regarded as a singles hitter in the minors, and scouts didn't believe he'd develop any real power.

Still thought Girardi could have thought outside the box and DH'ed him in October a few times, while Ellsbury and Headley never stood a chance at the plate

And he is the team mascot after all

He makes funny ass commercials though. :)

LOL

Love those commercials. Especially the one of him opening the pickle jar for Stanton.

there can be some pretty big differences in run environments across leagues. I always hated when the Red Sox had a minor league affiliate in Lancaster (CA), that ballpark was an extreme hitters park.

Coaching plays a role as well I'm sure.

He's a utility guy with a solid glove, most teams are lucky if a guy like that hits 230.

Right. I remember a certain Sox fan who was convinced that Lars Anderson was going to be an absolute monster based on the numbers he was putting up in Lancaster.

I'm assuming you're referring to a CBS poster. I remember a Sox fan on ESPN touting him (redsoxfan3358?). Lars never really hit that well at any other level unless you count his 41 game stint in AA after he got promoted from Lancaster.

Down38 on CBS. He was also very high on Lavarnway.

Hey, I thought Jesus Montero was going to be the next Edgar Martinez.

We all get carried away sometimes. :)

TAMPA, Fla. – Yankees batting practice has become a show, and now there’s a way to see more of it.

On Thursday, the club announced that Yankee Stadium Gates 6 and 8 and the Suite Entrance will be open three hours before Friday night home games and for Saturday games beginning at 4:05 p.m. and 7:15 p.m.

That’s designed for fans wishing to see Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, Gary Sanchez and company swing away in batting practice, providing access to the field level, great hall, certain suite areas – and yes, the bleachers.
