I’ve thought more about this. Devers had all sorts of issues with his shoulders last year. They should be looking to DH him more, anyway, as a result.

But I also understand the pride aspect of “I’m a 3rd baseman”. These guys are elite competitors. He’s also had like 2 days to adjust to this new scenario. If they had signed Bregman in December, this would all be much smoother now. It will work itself out.

My gut feeling is Bregman will play more 2b/SS and spell Devers at 3rd occasionally (say 20-30 games?). We'll see

They have too many infielders all of a sudden. But Bregman is one of the best 3B in the league. He really has to play there most of the time. Meanwhile, it sounds like Campbell is very solid defensively at 2B and they love his bat, too. I think they want him to win the 2B job.

Story will need plenty of time off, so Campbell and Bregman(and Rafaela) can fill in there…until Meyer is ready for the role on a more consistent basis. And that doesn’t even get into Hamilton and Grissom who probably can start for a lot of teams. Being able to use Devers at DH at least 3-4x/week would help a lot.
