Not sure if this was done yet.... Here is the OP from 2018. How many players still on your team?

Red Sox only have Rafael Devers...

Good times.
How many should there be? 7 years is an eternity in baseball. I can’t imagine many teams have more than 3 players left from 2018.

I think that was always the plan. Apparently the plan is also to let DJ, Cabrera and Peraza fight it out for 3B

Not too sure about that part of the plan :noidea:

Yup, not a fan of that move…..has to be something better……

Should Red Sox just cut Yoshida?

Noooo…. He isn’t 100% worthless. He just doesn’t hit enough to be a full-time DH. Cora seems completely unwilling to let him play the outfield, though(I don’t remember him being horrendous out there when he did). How bad could he be in LF in Fenway anyway? If he wasn’t coming off surgery, it would probably be easier to trade him. His contract is bad, but there are many that are worse out there.

They should probably just give Teoscar the 3/$75m(or so) that it would take to get him signed. They dicked around with him last Winter and he ended up with the Dodgers instead. They really could use his bat in the lineup.
@steveringo And now I see that the Dodgers have re-signed Teoscar for 3/$66m(with $23m of that deferred)! Where the F are the Sox on this deal? Their reluctance to spend any money is really concerning. He’s the piece they really could have used and those terms are so reasonable. Another lost opportunity.

Sigh... Hernandez did not like what Boston did to him last winter.

I'm probably the only one that still wants Devers at third.... as they'll pivot to Bregman or Arenado...

Burnes to Arizona

Seems like it was evident that ship had sailed for the Sox once they signed Buehler. I would have liked to get a workhorse like Burnes, but I do like what Breslow has done to build up the depth in the organization. Some rotation consisting of Crochet/Houck/Bello/Crawford/Giolito/Buehler (assuming Crawford goes to the bullpen?), and then you've got guys like Whitlock (granted the injury history), Fitts, Priester, Penrod, and Dobbins that can step in if things get hairy, and you could have Sandoval in the 2nd half.

I thought the D-Backs rotation would be better this year than it was, but there some injuries and young pitcher struggles. Now that they have Burnes, I wouldn't be surprised if that rotation takes a nice leap forward in 2025. There are some things about Burnes I'm wary about (declining strikeout rates, though his rate did rise later in 2024; declining fastball velocity). I don't think we're seeing 2020-21 Burnes again, but 2022-24 Burnes is still a very good pitcher.

Hopefully he isn’t as lazy on defense as he was here

Conceivably if Tork was sent down again he could DH also, idk. Kind of surprised the Tigers still talking Bregman with Jung, Keith, Tork so I'd suspect if they signed Bregman they would trade 1 of Jung or Tork.

I’m not going to pretend that Teoscar was THE missing piece, or anything like that. But it was a short-term deal and very reasonable money and he was a perfect fit. Was this team REALLY willing to go to $700m for Soto? Or was that just for show to say “see! We can play with the big boy teams!” I have my doubts.

And Arenado is clearly declining and not exactly a big move at this stage(if it even happens). And Bregman they won’t pay up for. Looks like they are punting on another season from what I can see. Still time left in the offseason, though.
