I am not overly optimistic about this signing.

he also had a hip injury, I wouldn't be surprised at all if that was messing with his mechanics. Sure enough the one start he didn't get shelled in July was against the Sox.

Look at his career. Only 2 seasons over 130 IP. 2 Cy Youngs, but the other seasons were rather pedestrian. Not sure I'd take a gamble on him for more than a year or 2 with a lot of incentives.

Boras is his agent, so that's not happening and probably why he's only got one offer in his pocket.

Some similarities with David Price before Boston signed him to that monster deal, which of course did not work out.

I get all of that. Unfortunately, he is very inconsistent. When he is good, he is great. When he isn't good, he is pedestrian. Would you buy 3+ years of pedestrian just to get one excellent season? I would not.
Low AAV with some easily achievable incentives that would bring the salary up to what Boras thinks he's worth.

A lot could possibly go right, but a shit ton more likely will go wrong. I don't think Snell is necessarily the answer, but I think they still need to reinforce that rotation somehow.
