Speaking of Sale and deserving better, 7 2/3 innings of shut-out great pitching in Detroit and the Sox leading 6-0 and they somehow cough it up in the 9th and lose in extras. Just sad.

I don't know. Personally I thought it was a blast to watch. :yahoo: Sale is a beast though. With Miggy being a lock for MVP, if Scherzer wins it that would give the Tigers 5 out of 6 of the big individual awards the last 3 seasons... and JV should have won the 6th last season. A world series would be a lot better. Magic number - 2.

They're awful. Little League-esque defense. It's a shame that Sale is stuck there. Nobody gets to see him pitch. If you do see him pitch, you have to watch the White Sox in order to do it. It's a damn shame.

Like I said earlier, now he knows just a little of how Felix Hernandez has felt for years. Felix has given CY caliber pitching for the most pathetic offense in the DH era. And not just one or two seasons but every season Felix has been here with the Mariners.

You haven't watched him as much as I have.

He's a lefty unfazed by Fenway Park, among other things.

Injury problems and an INCOMPETENT manager last year messed up his win percentage,
but he's still very good.

Last night,he became only the 3rd lefty to win 100 games with the Red Sox!
That sounds like CYA to me.

Buchholz's injury problems came THIS season, but he appears to have gotten past them.
You are batshit crazy.

Darvish's innings being below the likes of Fister, Buehrle, Guthrie, Lester and Holland isn't a good thing for his CYA chances. I couldn't put him second. I might not put him third. But I could put Chris Sale above everyone.

Is this the first post to mention Anibal Sanchez?

I think the voting will end up:

Scherzer
Darvish
Sanchez
Iwakuma
Colon
Sale
Masterson
Price
Hernandez
Uehara

(Reminder - Boston has a red-haired lunatic writer that likes to stip the pot)

One thing which could be in Darvish's favor is that he has 2 starts remaining, while Sale, Scherzer and Iwakuma have 1 left...so if the difference is >5 IP or so, it should be insignificant

Very interesting race nonetheless with no 'runaway' winner going down to the final week.

Ahhh, I didn't know Darvish had an additional start. If he doesn't piss around and jack his pitch count up maybe he goes deep both times. Despite Ani Sanchez' great season, I couldn't put him top five. He missed a decent chunk of time. And everything but his ERA has paid the price. Career year though. Not sure which Tiger starter, he or Max, has elevated his game and status more this season. (Scherzer started his climb last June)

I don't see David Price getting any votes. Or atleast not more than Kuroda, Shields, Tillman, or Santana. Who all weren't listed.(Fister and Quintana may even be having better seasons, but idk) Wasn't too long ago I had Masterson in my top five. Then Detroit, Anaheim and Oakland got ahold of him. And then he got hurt and was shut down. Too bad, cuz he was having an excellent season.

This is going to be the toughest vote in years. It's still completely up in the air between Scherzer, Darvish, Iwakuma and Sale. I'd probably vote for Sale. But no one is even close to separating themselves from the pack.

Because there isn't a consensus among the new age voters, the old timers are probably going to make the difference, and I expect Scherzer to win as a result because of his W-L. This could be a rare year where it would be perfectly acceptable for 4 different guys to claim the award.

It was Scherzers to lose for over a month, imo. And while he didn't quite do enough(too little) to lose, he wouldn't get my vote. Especially if he isn't below 3.00 at the end of the year. If Colon(who I forgot to list earlier) had got lucky enough to reach 20 Ws also, it would be an even wilder vote. For what it's worth, I dont think Iwakuma will get as much love as he should when it comes down to it.

Well I think he's also the one who believes that Ted Williams was the reason the Red Sox didn't win any world series' during his career so you may have something there.

Also that John Lester deserves considering for being the best pitcher in baseball from 2006-2011.

If you feel that Sale has been the best pitcher in the AL, then your support should be for Sale.
