tigers did nothing to get one.

Benoit did good job during the season.
but when the chips are on the line...you can see he is not comfortable being the closer.

every game we are up 3 runs or less..its nail bitting time.
shouldn't be that way

I don't know man, I would avoid the wild card like the plague if the Royals could have won the division. 1 game eliminations are BRUTAL. I would not feel good about going against Price/Darvish/Insert Ace here.

Fans do turn on their players quick. Detroit had problems (bad pen, poor defense) coming into the post-season. What happened should not come as a big surprise. Tiger's starting pitchers are pitching super, but the rest of the team isn't. Detroit is no longer playing the Astros, Royals, Twins, and White Sox. They play "half-way" against a good team, they will lose.
Leyland should have kept Scherzer in....using 20/20 hindsight. But maybe Max was spent and said he was done? 108 "pressure pitches" in a game like that is probably tougher than throwing 120 or more in a regular game.

The announcers said Ortiz hadn't done much in his career off Benoit. I don't fault Leyland for the move. I fault Benoit for throwing a stupid first-pitch fastball right down the middle. And I fault Veras, Smyly and Alburquerque for not doing their jobs. Especially Smyly. Come in and walk a left-hander. Hell, Phil Coke coulda done that.

Leyland used 5 relievers to record THREE outs.....shouldve saved smyly for papi....why take veras out after one hit. It was 5-1 with one man on ellsbury up and 2 RH hitters up after....leave veras in!!!! Instead he used a shitload of pitchers who all let ONE man reach...well except porcello. Horrible managing...

You have lefthanded relievers on your team to come in and face a lefty...

Instead of using your so called best lefty vs ellsbury with one man on in a 5-1 game....you would think u might save him in case papi gets up with runners on.

I heard phil coke held big papi 2-16 in his career.....woulda rather had coke in and maybe even issue a walk like he does.

Then benoit faced TWO batters, and couldnt come out for the 9th? Wtf? He was trying for a 4 out save....but yet he faced 2 guys and was done? Leylands an idiot. Im sorry HE over managed this game and blew it.

Its harder for a LH hitter to hit a HR off a lefty.....anything but a HR to papi there and tigers might still win.....thats why you save a lefty for that situation.

Darryl hamilton brought this up as well. Ortiz 2-18 lifetime vs coke. If you can't trust your lefty to come in and get 1 lefty out whom he's had success against
