Per Barrows,
@mattbarrows: Billy Cundiff on his way to Santa Clara for his second workout with the #49ers in the last month, source says. Others to work out, too.

these guys all have NFL experience, so fine with me as far as name goes. next, this is why you bring them in and try them out, to find out who is kicking best NOW?

granted, don't know what the impact of Akers contract? it might turn out a very difficult cut cause aren't we right up to the cap?

NinerCapHell says SF has 1.5m in cap space, though cap numbers seem to fluctuate among different sources.

Nooooo Billy Cundiff. No. No. No. No. No. No! I can only speak on that emotionally and not from a technical standpoint because I have no experience studying kickers, but no. Not Cundiff. Please.

I'd probably go Jeff Reed if it had to be those names but I still like John Kasay over anyone else now that Kaeding is gone. He might not be a realistic option at his age and because he retired. In the end, fans choosing kickers is kind of funny because it's such a beast of its own and something you need to know and see for yourself after watching these guys go through their routines.

ok mahalo.

it appears we could bring someone in for the play-offs, three games shouldn't cost a sizable contract? plus, if you're an unemployed NFL kicker able to join the 49ers, you'd almost do it for free. :-)

im with you, i don't see how he is an update at all he has fucked up so many important kicks, he is the last person I think of when i think of clutch kickers.

I used to tease my friends who are ravens fans when they had him too,if he comes here I'm going to hate life!

We can not afford to lose a game because of ST again! I will go crazy!

I'm for bringing guys to try out but I still crossing my fingers that Akers breaks out of it.

It just feels like one of those cases like a hitter in baseball going through a terrible slump and just needs that one good hit to completely bust out of it.

Feels like if Akers can just get a clean big kick through it would put him back on track.

What about Nedney, give him what he wants if he can still put it through the uprights. He knows the wind in SF and should be able to atleast get us through the playoffs

How about Jose Cortez? Wait, what? :P

Jose Cortez Stats

Oh, ESPN. Why does ESPN put attempts and makes with .0, like 53.0 and 74.0? It's not like sacks where you can get half a sack, so why not just 53 and 74? Am I missing something, here? Also, it says how many kickers made from each distance, but it doesn't tell us how many they attempted from that far. ESPN is lacking on one of the things that happens the fewest times in a game (FG). There are usually more kickoffs and punts? Defensive stats are half the game, but they are more complete (less complete than pro football reference, of course).
