No surprise: Jim Harbaugh said team will "evaluate" the kicker position with David Akers continuing to struggle. #49ers

I missed a name on the FA list that interests me - John Kasay. How I missed him the first time I looked? I have no idea. He's very tempting after Kaeding was signed by the Dolphins. I can't find anything health wise that would suggest he'd be automatically removed from consideration? He is 43, though, so it's questionable if he'd consider it for ANY team at this point.

Other than the retired Joe Nedney, there just isn't anything but scary names out there, but I think a move is necessary at this point. I just don't want to see Cundiff. He might be the last guy I'd choose right now.

I'm okay with taking a look at Kasay. What about Giorgio Tavechhio? He was in camp. Dig his number up....crap I'd give Nedney and Cundiff a look as well.

This is going to blow up in our face....

I've seen a number of people bring Giorgio up before but for a fan you're really shooting a dart in the dark on that one because we haven't seen much of him to go off of? With kickers, previous success is probably something that factors into the equation a bit more than those who are making the decisions.

Kasay had been fairly reliable numbers wise in the latter part of his career. Distance appeared to be a big of a problem for him, but I'm not sure you're going to find somebody with a reliable, long leg anyways. (And if you do, he might be a specialist in that department alone). He was kicking in a dome late in his career as well and I don't know if a STs coordinator would have a problem with his leg in Candlestick conditions.

This is why Harbaughs stubborn ass should have signed Kaeding and sat Akers for injury reasons for a couple of weeks. if Kaeding did well then he stays, and if he bombed you can easily go back to Akers.

While we are trolling for kickers....any punt returners out there? What about cox? He retuned in Denver, right?

Ginn has been a train wreck lately.

Too bad we missed out on a guy like Blair Walsh. Are there any QB's coming out of college that interest anyone? I really don't pay too much attention to them.

I vote Erik Folk. He was beaten out by Matt Bryant this year in the preseason. He was fantastic with the University of Washington. Clutch.

No way, we're stuck with Akers now. This is the worst year of his career, but he is a veteran kicker and that just might count for something in the playoffs.

On NFL.com, in those comments sections some people were saying that Alex Smith could have won the Seahawks game. Crazy, right? Anyway, let's just keep the what-if's to one position... I'm willing to roll the dice with Akers. I only would have wanted Kaeding over him, and that ship has sailed.

if his confidence is lost now in the regular season, i don't see it bouncing back in more meaningful games later. something is wrong, other than condiff i don't see how we can be worse. it's not liek we have to worry about a kicker having chemistry with other players. kick the fuckin ball and shut up.

The guy is done. He's had crucial misses in every loss we've incurred. Had the Packers won I might have agreed, but we have 2 weeks to work someone in.

On 2nd thought, the 49ers have an extra week. If possible, bring in a kicker for a kick-competition. Shit, bring in 2 or 3 if possible. Then spend a day just kicking every imaginable and possible FG required by this offense. Well, just run down the possibilities of Left, Middle, Right from the 25, 30, 35 yard line... 9 kicks each from what would be what is it? 37, 42, and 47 yard kicks? I'd prefer if they could do this at Candlestick, since the wind conditions there are obviously unique to the stadium.

May the best kicker be our 2012 Playoff kicker. Oh yeah, and first things first, be able to kick it deep into the endzone on a kickoff to advance to the FG tryout round.

Maybe we're just lulling everybody into a false sense of security. Maybe Akers is waiting for the playoffs to "unleash the beast!!!! MINOTAUR!!!!!"

Am told Special Teams/Ass't Head Coach Brad Seely is conducting #49ers' kicker search. Available kicking legs: Billy Cundiff, Neil Rackers.. ... Dave Raynor and Jeff Reed, who was solid for the 49ers -- one miss -- when he replaced an injured Joe Nedney a couple years ago.
