After weighing in at 500-plus pounds, Jared Lorenzen launches project to get healthy

During his playing days at Kentucky, quarterback Jared Lorenzen was listed around 260 pounds. That figure was around 280 pounds by the time his five-year NFL career came to a close in 2008 and then bumped up to 320 when he played for a few indoor football teams a few years back.

The whole time, though, Lorenzen’s weight was higher than he even knew — something he admitted in a 2014 ESPN The Magazine story. That was because he didn’t step on a scale in the eight years after he was cut by the Indianapolis Colts. And when he did, the figure shocked him: 502.8 pounds.

I thought when the article said he played in the arena league for awhile that it was as a lineman not throwing the ball as it shows in the video above that was pretty funny

Ex Skins, Mark May, ex Skins/Bronco, Mark Schlerth and used to be big Nate. Should start some type of weight loss center/business. They'd clean some serious house.

i remember when he offered to QB (forget the team) for free? giants?

the video of him playing in QB in the AFL, bigger than most lineman was funny

A lot of NFL lineman go one way or another after they retire. They either put on lots of weight or lose a considerable amt of weight. A lot of them put on more weight than they would like while in the NFL since they are pressured to be way over 300 lbs to be effective. There are lots of other ex-NFL players who have lost a bunch of weight.

Here are some more:

12 former NFL players who lost a ton of weight after retiring

The after pictures of Alan Faneca & Matt Birk barely resemble their former selves.

Beautiful until they start developing complications due to diabetes, heart disease, etc - not to mention how the extra weight starts complicating their other injuries for their legs, backs, etc. They can possibly deal with this in their 20s & even their 30s, but after that it really takes its toll. Ask the Fridge - his life is a complete mess rt now & the extra weight sure isn't helping him.
