Ray Rice was injured and our OL has sucked this year. Bernard Pierce who was a beast last year hasnt done shit all year either and its his second year. Look for our OL to only have Yanda Osemele (currently injured) and Monroe back.

Ray Rice is fine hes 26 and hsa never been a big carry rb.....

get it right.

He's played 6 full seasons. That's well beyond the normal shelf life of a NFL RB. He'll be 27 in a few weeks. I'd draft another RB if I were them.

Rudi Johnson was good for a few seasons and then he fell off the planet. Looks like the same is happening to Ray Ray.

It will be interesting to see how he handles more work in the upcoming years. I'm skeptical.

I agree 6 years is usually the life we shall see...I think he had an injury and most of Ray R's value is catching passes out of the backfield. we shall see.

You are right...he's only eclipsed 300 carries once, but does catch a lot of passes out of the backfield. From 2009-2012 he averaged 347 touches per season. That's a lot for any RB, especially one that isn't built like Bettis, or any other traditional "big" back. Rice is just 5'8" (if that) and listed at 212. After 6 season, wear and tear is taking its toll.

His 13 broken tackles points to a bigger picture...as does his paltry 1.5 yards after contact. This points to a lack of explosion, and has nothing to do with your admittedly poor OL play. He had a hip injury early in the year, but has said nearly all year since that, he's healthy. So, injury isn't a part of that this late into the season.

RB is one of those positions that once you lose "it", it goes fast. The list is long and littered with RB's who were great all the way up until they weren't. You usually don't see a gradual decline in play at certain positions, and RB is typically one of them. They go from being fast, shifty, and dominant to being tackled by air, not breaking tackles, and getting caught from behind.

Rice has been one of the best RB's in the NFL over the past 5+ seasons...however...it certainly looks like his prime is in the rear-view mirror. His age means nothing. It's not the age, it's the milage under the hood. Like it or not, Rice simply isn't a factor anymore, and the stats back that up.

All I am saying is much like what i say about Flacco this year. It is hard to throw or run the ball when you are being hit in the backfield every snap on almost every down. Flacco has been sacked like 46 times this year and Ray Rice gets hit in the backfield "most" times. Its our OL which I am not ashamed to say sucks but its not ray Rice.

So far as catching the ball out of the backfield thats not the same wear and tear as rnning the ball up the middle. Its similar to the beating a wr takes which is minimal compared to a back like AP or BJGE.

Since 2011 Ray Rice has shown signs of just not quite being the running back he was at his peak in that year. He averaged 4.7 YPC that year plus had his best receiving year as well. After a big season most running backs see at least a slight decline as that 300 touches a season is about the cut off for a running back in the NFL these days. Since then Rice has seen a major decline in YPC, receptions, yards per catch, touchdowns, and other stats. Sorry Tgann but Rice looks like he is quickly becoming a complementary back more than the work horse for a team.

Isn't the average life of a running back less than three years? The Ravens should be happy with what they have gotten out of Rice, and ready to move on.

Some of that is true. The OL play doesn't help, but when you are not getting YAC, and only break 13 tackles...13...that is a sign that there are bigger issues than "just" the OL.

While catches don't usually end up with the sme impact, it's still usage. The more you use something, the more wear/tear it receives. It doesn't always matter if it is minimal or not, it adds to the bigger picture that he is used (has been used) a ton over the past 4+ seasons.

Flacco has also thrown 50% of his INT's under no durress, per PFF. 10 of his 19 INt's have come with no pressure.

@Cdumler...

He has always been a complimentary back he was never workhorse back I am fine with that. He is best used out of the backfield Id be fine if he never ran the ball.

WHich leads me to my next question...Ray Rice and Bernard Pierce had good years last year and moraculously this year "neither" are doing shit...Do you think just maybe just maybe its the OL? or is the second year RB Bernard Pierce falling apart as well?

I guess he is different from Dalton in that way. Put pressure on Dalton and he throws int after int. just look at his performance against he Ravens.

Actually per PFF only five Dalton picks have come when facing pressure. His accuracy suffers greatly under pressure though. Thankfully the Bengals are among the best at protecting the passer.

Even without the stats, Pierce "looks" better running the ball. He passes the eye test, if you will.

Rice is not passing the eye test at all. He looks slow, he looks less-explosive, and he looks like a RB who is sliding down the hill towards the end of his playing days.

Not great at protection against the Ravens he was sacked 5 times last meeting...

Dalton has faced the Ravens five times. He’s thrown seven interceptions (his highest total against any team) to just four touchdowns. He has just a 53.1 completion percentage and quarterback rating of 63.7. He’s also lost a fumble. In Week 10 this year, Dalton completed 24 of 51 passes for 274 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions.

Just saying...

That's neat. I'm sure it will make you feel better when you're watching us play in the playoffs.
