The Redskins had 3 WRs with 1000 yards before that. Herman Moore was a star but Perriman wasnt. You really trying to compare the Lions O to the Cowboys O... c'mon. Sanders line was OK but it wasnt the best in the history of the NFL that in my opinion the Cowboys had.

Not to mention Scott Mitchell and Rodney Pete at QB. In absolutely no way do I think that Emmitt wasnt great. He was one of the all time greats ever. My issue is with Twist3d saying "No one with an IQ above 2 would take Sanders ahead of Emmitt". That is simply just not true. Look at the stats. Look at what the writers are saying. I bet if we polled the fans across the NFL and didnt include Cowboy or Lions fans the VAST MAJORITY would take Sanders over Emmitt.

I give two shits less what "writers" say

They are paid for shock value.

Look at the other Rb topic ... only one person had Barry in their top 10 they would take.

There is a difference in hate ... and reality

What year was that and notice I said 100 receptions not 1000 yards.

You really trying to compare the Lions O to the Cowboys O

Show me where I did this? I simply stated the Lions offense around Barry wasn't as bad as people think...

He led the Eagles to the playoffs and a playoff win!

He played parts of three seasons with the Eagles and they did make the playoffs but he threw 3 passes in his one playoff game for the Eagles completing ZERO. Oh and the Eagles lost to the Redskins..

I'll say this and judge how you want

Barry was great.... Butno Runningback ever HURT his team more than Barry did. 1st and 10 could turn into 2nd and 25 real quick.

3rd and 1 in field goal range could turn into 4th and 25 out of field goal range.

I watched the man play .... he was great.... but he was a heart breaker too They lost alomost as many games because of Sanders as they won because of him ....

Take it as you want .... I watched his entire career

He was a joke ...
What did he do in Philly without Payton?

What year was that and notice I said 100 receptions not 1000 yards.

I read it wrong and its true that you didnt compare them. The Lions actually did have a good O and a mediocre D. I think if Barry was behind that line the Cowboys had he would broke the record in 10 years alone. Plus he was sooooooo much more likable then Emmitt (which means nothing). God it used to annoy this shit out of me when Dallas was losing by 20 in the 4th and Emmitt would run around looking for the ball he scored the meaningless TD with. Emmitt took home every ball he scored with win or lose. I was probably more annoyed out of jealousy, though.

Thats not true at all. He wouldnt lose 24 yards on 3rd and 1. He freaking carried that team. He was good for 1700 to 1800 yards EVERY year. Like I said. Go look at what the writers think Twist. THey ALL rank Sanders ahead of Emmitt.

bullshit Malco ... stop going shock value

The man lost more yards than any other man in the history of the game ..... and he did that in a SHORT career ( short career has been pointed out several times in this topic)

When and where did I go shock value???

His lost yards didn't amount to anything when he was still putting up 2000 total yards over and over and over. He still had a better YPC then Emmitt did. Just go look at the stats from every year and it is clear as day that Emmitt was a notch below Sanders. In there 8, 9, 10th years in the league Emmit was rushing for 1000 to 1300 yards when Sanders was rushing for 2000+
Like I said, go look at what the writers are saying. They ALL rate Sanders as a better RB. All of them.

There is more to just running to being a NFL running back. Yes in the open field and break aways Barry was much better than Emmitt. Now inside the 10 yard line who do you take? 3rd and short who do you take? Blitz pickup who do you take? Barry was as an exciting back as there ever was, but what RB was likely to hurt you team in pressure situations?

AD's biggest obstacle is really the way the game has changed in terms of player durability. He's basically saying he needs another 5 years at his pace to get there and I just don't know if he can last that long with all the wear and tear he has already accumulated.
:agree:

Or does he want to? You see how many of these ex-NFL players are really messed up later in life... and at what point do you have enough money and call it quits so you can still walk when you are 60?

Yeah... Barry was the best open field and lateral cutting back ever. Not a power back.

Emmitt was the perfect combination of power, speed, low center of gravity, etc. He also ran behind one hell of a line for a long time. He was running through holes... where Barry was creating holes by juking guys out of the shorts....

But inside the 10 yard line I agree with you

On the holes I agree Emmitt had those to run through but if you go back and watch both Barry and Emmit's game Emmitt's holes opened as he got to the line as the play was designed to do. Barry would often dance in the back field until the hole opened up and then he'd sprint to the hole. Often the hole would close as he got there. Maybe, just maybe if Barry trusted his offensive coordinator and the 11 men on the field he too would have had more holes to run through. At the very least he would not have lost over 1000 yards through his career.

OK PE1, You have a team buit to make a SB run. Who do you put in at RB? Top 10.

You mean top 10 at RB to make a SB run or top 10 players? If we are just going RB and not including the older all time greats like Jim Brown etc.

1. Barry Sanders
2. Adrian Peterson of last year
3. Ladanian Tomlinson
4. Eric Dickerson (My favorite non Eagle player ever)

Thats my top 4 for a Super Bowl run. Now if I did my top 4 RBs ever Emmitt would be on the list because he was great for a loooong time but didn't have the outrageous one year numbers as the other 4. I would take Sanders 2000 yard season, AP from last year, LT's 28 TD season or Dickersons 2100 yard season. Theres a difference between a SB run and an all time great. What made Emmitt so good is he was great for many years. What separates Sanders from Emmitt was Emmitt started to slow down at year 8 while Barry Sanders was rushing for 2000 in his 9th season. If Barry hung around for years he's be in the 20,000 range. He didn't take big hits like the others and was rarely hurt like Emmitt. Thats all speculation though cause while Sanders is a "woulda-coulda" Emmit was still good.
