According to CBS Evening News’ Jim Axelrod, Alex Rodriguez could be facing a lifetime ban from MLB.
Ryan Braun was given a 65-game suspension on Monday for his involvement in the Biogenesis PED clinic and reports from ESPN have stated that the evidence against A-Rod is "far beyond" what Major League Baseball investigators had on the Brewers star. Rodriguez is presumably going to attempt to work out a deal with the commissioner's office, but if MLB has enough evidence it could look to push the 37-year-old third baseman out for good. There's much more to come.

I wonder what his contract says about a lifetime ban...the money's gotta be the only reason he's even trying to work out a deal. As I understand it, if he retires he doesn't get paid, right? So where would such a ban fit in?

Wouldn't insurance kick in?

Insurance won't kick in for suspension. The Yankees won't have to pay him while he is suspended but he can come back and make his money. Not sure about the entire being banned thing.

Both should be gone forever if MLB wants to be serious on this. Especially since braun earlier embarrassed the MLB by getting away with it.

If this was the beginning of the year, 65 games is not that big of a suspension. He'd still make almost 100 games out of it.

Braun and A-Rod should be gone for good, send the message. Now from here on out if you caught you're out.

This is getting interesting. I wonder what he gets. 100 games, 150, an entire season.

USA Today's Bob Nightengale reports that Alex Rodriguez has no intention of negotiating a settlement with Major League Baseball and would appeal any potential suspension.
A report earlier Tuesday from CBS Evening News’ Jim Axelrod said that A-Rod is looking to cut a deal with MLB, but Nightengale is hearing otherwise. Axelrod's report says that the third baseman could be looking at a possible lifetime ban from MLB. CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reported Monday that A-Rod's suspension is expected to be announced within the next 2-3 weeks.

MLBPA won't allow him to be banned for life. It would be very interesting to see what happens with him. The Yankees knew what they were getting into so they will be on the hook as well for the salary and I am sure MLBPA will make sure of that

You gotta figure the Yankees desperately want this guy suspended either way. It saves them a boatload of cash if he's suspended. The Yankees are better off with him suspended than him sitting out with hip problems all the time.

The Yankees would love to see Rodriguez fight, prolonging his situation, and then lose, as any penalty impacting his 2014 salary would aid the Yankees’ effort to get their payroll next year under the $189 million luxury tax threshold. A 2014 suspension of A-Rod for 100 or more games would give the Yankees vastly increased flexibility, as Rodriguez is set to make $25 million next year. ~ NY Post

The Yankees would not pay one single cent of the contract, they'd be completely free of it.

Life long ban is a joke!!! We get it that the press and the rest of baseball(even Yankee fans) Hate AROD, but just because we dont like him doesnt mean his penalty should be worse than anyone else... After all he has not been penalized yet for steroids... I was surprised that Braun got 65 games!!! first offense is 50 games!!! and this is still there first offense!! Being linked to steroids is not the same thing as being guilty of steroids!!! anything before the "punishable" records can not count to the first offense!!! i wonder if this was andy pettite if the same cries would be here

Pete Rose got a lifetime ban for betting on a game. You would think actually cheating such as taking PED's would be an equal sentence.
