. Selling is the only thing that makes sense at this point. The Tigers are close to implosion. True, they could still win the AL Central. They could get a wild-card. But their staff has more question marks than the Royals in my opinion. After Price, Sanchez and Verlander are not nearly as dependable. After that it is dismal. There is little to no pen. No one to trust at the end of a game. And one of the elite hitters of all-time is sidelined for weeks. Avila has not hit well for some time. Castellanos has been disappointing.
Yes, both KC and Minnesota have rotations that are somewhat questionable. Minnesota has a pen issue too. The Royals bats throughout the lineup are superior to the Twins. Both teams play good defense and have good chemistry.
But in Minny and KC there is a positive vibe. There is growing youth. There is abundance of options. KC is primed to run away with the division. Minnesota is playing like the days when they won with hard work. Somehow the rotation that the Twins put on the field is doing the job.
In Detroit, there is grumbling, and the market. DD has brought success by finding trades and free agents to go with a few homegrown products. But he has mortgaged the farm. It is time to pay the piper.
The Tigers could roar back. But it is more likely that we are seeing the fall of the house of Detroit.
DD might as well go that route in his final season, give it a try before he moves on.
