Payroll flexibility will make Shields cheaper than many would think I bet.
After losing a first to you guys for him this year Id think they'd want more MLB ready returns than any of the obvious rental options out there. (And there are some very good ones. Until just a few days ago I was kinda interested in several.)

But maybe they'd want to free up money longterm. Just doesn't seem like something a team would want to do, trade a guy that signed longterm just months after getting there. I'd think agents and players themselves would make note. But maybe, idk.

Well, Preller might be Beane-esque aggressive tradewise with a bigger budget. Seems plausible given his short tenure.

He did come on the scene all gangbusters.

Could go all crazy at the deadline too.

Grandal for Kemp was as dumb a trade as I can think of so I guess I wouldn't put anything past him.

That Royals-Jays game was a thriller... but let's not do that shit too often.

Also, I'm still depressed about the Gordon injury. :tsk:

The Donaldson trade is still highway robbery for the Jays. Somehow, they're below .500.

Will be interesting to see how Kyle Gibson finishes the second half of the year. Pretty sure the advanced metrics point to his 2.85 era as being fortunate.

But it's kind of just the pitcher he is. Let's see if he can sustain it.

Time to fire that piece of shot Ausmus.
The way he managed the first-round last year (like an inexperienced POS) I'm surprised they brought him back.

The Tigers went from 5th in team ERA about a month ago to 13th in the AL now. That speaks more to the crap Dombrowski has saddled the team with that to anything Ausmus has done.

DD's contract runs out at the end of this year. :suds:
He signed a 4 year extension in 2011
sayonara Dave and Brad

Dave Dombrowski: Trades not affected by my situation
Dave Dombrowski is a free agent at the end of the year.
He signed a four-year extension in August 2011 and would not elaborate on any current progress being made on a new extension.

The Tigers are close to implosion. True, they could still win the AL Central. They could get a wild-card. But their staff has more question marks than the Royals in my opinion. After Price, Sanchez and Verlander are not nearly as dependable. After that it is dismal. There is little to no pen. No one to trust at the end of a game. And one of the elite hitters of all-time is sidelined for weeks. Avila has not hit well for some time. Castellanos has been disappointing.

Yes, both KC and Minnesota have rotations that are somewhat questionable. Minnesota has a pen issue too. The Royals bats throughout the lineup are superior to the Twins. Both teams play good defense and have good chemistry.

But in Minny and KC there is a positive vibe. There is growing youth. There is abundance of options. KC is primed to run away with the division. Minnesota is playing like the days when they won with hard work. Somehow the rotation that the Twins put on the field is doing the job.

In Detroit, there is grumbling, and the market. DD has brought success by finding trades and free agents to go with a few homegrown products. But he has mortgaged the farm. It is time to pay the piper.

The Tigers could roar back. But it is more likely that we are seeing the fall of the house of Detroit.

I wonder if San Diego would be willing to part with Cashner or Shields?

Padres beat writers are talking like Shields and Kimbrel are the two most likely to go.

Paul Dolan, It's been 15 years plus. Have you not learned anything aboutb aseball yet? You've got a competitive pitching staff in tact, it's time to quit farting around with these no hit wonders you are paying to play. Get some people that can hit the damn ball and quit cheaping out all the time.
