Well, Jon Heyman tweets that the Red Sox have reached an agreement with the Rangers catcher A.J. Pierzynski. Does this mean Salty is out the door? And the Red Sox will go with Lavernway and Ross?

There are also reports that "the market for Jacoby Ellsbury is moving faster than expected."

Easily the most impressive performance of the 2013 NFL season IMO (defensively, at least).

I'd rather have Salty, but I do think he'll regress. He had a .372 BABIP in 2013. It was .265 in 2012 and .304 in 2011.

Salty trade worked out pretty well though. In three seasons with the Sox (four if you want to count his 25 plate appearances in 2010, he batted .243/.307/.455 (104 OPS+) with 5.3 WAR in 1329 PA. Sox gave up Chris McGuiness, Roman Mendez, and Michael Thomas for him.

It's too bad Napoli can't catch any more.

Pierzynsky is 36 years old, so I don't want him doing more than filling in now and then.

KEEP ELLSBURY! His agent doesn't take on clients unworthy of big bucks anymore!

Sean McAdam of CSNNE.com reports that A.J. Pierzynski will get a one-year deal from the Red Sox.
Pierzynski's low on-base percentage doesn't really fit in with Boston's typical approach, but the Red Sox preferred him over Jarrod Saltalamacchia, who will almost certainly get a multi-year deal in free agency. The Red Sox have prospects Christian Vazquez and Blake Swihart on the way, so Pierzynski will essentially function as a stopgap option. He should retain most of his fantasy value with the move from Texas to Boston.

Salty was a decent bat but stunk as a catcher Its why Ross replaced him in the playoffs:suds:

Yet another reason to dislike Boston now. How many assholes can fit on one team anyway?!

I don't like this signing either. But in this day and age the saying is "what have you done for me lately?" and lately Salty hasn't done it. I don't get why they went the old age player especially for the catching position! I mean do they really think Lavarnway is ready?

I'm not too good on Red Sox farm system but do they even have a C down there?

Ellsbury isn't coming back to the sox...

My bad! I have seen that all over the place though!

Does the Fister deal make it a "given" the Tigers re-sing Scherzer long-term?

Another first year wonder bites the dust -

Chris Coghlan, the 2009 National League Rookie of the Year, became a free agent when the Miami Marlins failed to offer him a 2014 contract by Monday's midnight ET deadline.

After hitting .321 with nine homers and 47 RBIs to win the rookie award, Coghlan has been limited by injuries to 91, 65, 39 and 70 games over the past four seasons. He hit .256 this year with one homer and 10 RBIs in 195 at-bats, and was eligible for salary arbitration after making $503,500.

BOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Steve Dilbeck of the Los Angeles Times reports that Nomar Garciaparra has been “hired as a new commentator” by the Dodgers’ soon-to-launch television network, SportsNet LA.
Garciaparra was a six-time All-Star and two-time batting champion who retired in 2009 after 14 seasons in the majors, including three years with the Dodgers. He’s been working as a television analyst for ESPN.
His exact role with SportsNet LA isn’t known yet, but Dilbeck says he’s “expected to do pre- and post-game commentary.”
