Hershiser was 1988. Pretty sick year but I give the edge to Pedro.

Agreed. Hershiser's last 9 starts that year:

82 IP, 8 complete games, 57 K, 15 BB, 48 hits allowed, 4 R (all earned), 0.44 ERA, .403 OPS against

Pretty amazing stretch.

Pedro was putting up batshit insane K/BB ratios. Hell, only 5.3 hits per 9 IP, 4th best all-time among single seasons.

Kershaw comes in at 39) 2014 & 47) 2013

And isn't it wild that 6 of the top ten were back to back years by the same pitchers...

Wow, some of those go back pretty far with The Big Train and Three Finger Brown. I'm not sure who Tim Keefe is, but I bet he has a pretty cool nickname.

Yep... The history is a big part of the reason we love baseball.

To think most of witnessed four of the best seasons ever by starting pitchers. And to think Maddux and Martinez pitched durring the steroid era....

That version of Pedro is the best pitcher I've ever seen. It seemed like he was hitting double digit K's every game, just lights out. I've heard Orel Hershiser had a stretch in the late 80s that was unreal as well but that was a bit before my time.

I have to admit I never like Pedro but there is no denying he was incredible and not just for 2 yrs. The man was a great pitcher. I watched all of Hershiser's career and can tell you there is no one who compares him to Pedro in any way. Hershiser was a good pitcher but he was no Pedro. As for Kershaw , well he's a tremendous talent and will probably go down as one of the very best we've ever seen. Too bad he's wasting such great yrs on the West Coast where no one gives a shit.
