Kluber's September has been ridiculous

5-0 0.71 ERA 0.74 WHIP 47K/3BB

While Sale had some problems in August/September

I think the much stronger finish ends up sending the Cy Young to Kluber.

really going out on a limb there

sale got 2 votes from a chisox and bosox writer. lol

I know you did. Good on you for taking the bet and honoring it.

I had that avi idea (not necessarily for you, just a Red Sox fan) a while ago and have been waiting to drop it. Thanks for making my dreams come true.

stantons people are pushing him to come to boston for a number of good reasons:

1 - better to go to boston than LA, from a purely baseball perspective (better for the game)
2 - monster matchups with judge
3 - better park for his talents
4 - more off field stuff for him to get noticeably involved in

i still prefer signing JD martinez vs losing core guys for stanton. martinez's career high in HR is 45. next high is 38, so not a fluke. JD also mashes in fenway.

stantons career high 59 this year, his second high total is 37.

A move that gives up a shitload of talent and takes on a contract like Staton's sure has Dombrowski written all over it.

part of that stems from Stanton's various injuries (not that those should be ignored). Stanton also hit 27 home runs in 2015, but that was in only 74 games. He also hit 37 in 2012 despite playing only 123 games. Stanton might not hit 59 home runs again, but I don't see why he can't hit 50+ again as long as he's healthy. Stanton has a higher ISO than anyone over the last four years (Martinez is 4th) and the highest since breaking into the majors in 2010.

That being said, I'd rather have J.D. Martinez. The Stanton contract and opt-out situations are just scary, and that's before getting into what it could cost to acquire him. Not to mention they've been about equal as hitters over the last four seasons:

Stanton: .271/.366/.573, 149 wRC+
Martinez: .300/.362/.574, 148 wRC+

Stanton hits for more power while Martinez has been a better contact hitter, though Stanton has a slightly higher OBP.

Personally, I'd rather have Carlos Santana. He might not have the upside of Martinez or Stanton, but he's been a very steady performer and he has a track record of staying healthy (save for a collision at the plate in his rookie year). He's played 150+ games in 6 of his 7 full seasons with the exception being 143 in 2012 (when he still played mostly catcher). Santana has a career 122 OPS+ and while the power numbers have been a bit all over the place, his OBP has been steady. He sports a career .365 OBP and his lowest in a full season was .351 (despite hitting .239) thanks to his ability to draw a lot of walks (15.2% walk rate). Not to mention he shouldn't cost too much either.
