No one takes his spot. Odd numbered year.

Same thing with Pagan. I just don't think they have a major urgency to win at all costs this year. So the vets get plenty of rope.
Not sure on that. The Giants have Lincecum and Hudson on the dl. I doubt both go to the bullpen when they get activated September 1st.

However, what are the odds that if Heston also continues to struggle that he goes to the bullpen before Cain?

OK fair enough, Cain will get what, 4 more August starts? And probably suck, per available evidence. Then maybe they will say here Timmy, have a shot, and he will suck, per available evidence. Then the other Timmy, same thing. Odd numbered year still stands.

Heston has not been as dominant as earlier, perhaps he needs rest? (dog days and all that).

Still

Last 7 games: 3-1, 2.93 ERA

Last 15 games: 8-3, 3.77 ERA

Season: 11-6, 3.48 ERA

I'd say he's trending positively.

Sigh, also possible. I came into this year without expecting much, but I can't decide if I'd have preferred to flat out suck, or this teasing almost there kinda of thing.

Still plenty of season left so who knows...but I've been conditioned to believe (by this team!) that pitching is everything, and this year they don't got it.

I'm not advocating it, just wonder how Bochy and Co would handle Heston vesus Cain, assuming both perform poorly in August.

I'd prefer falling flat early on and no teasing. Playing three games out of first in August pulls me in and makes losses that much harder.

Stratton has pretty favorable comps to Heston at AAA, walks fewer, strikes out fewer.

2015 Stratton in AAA

Granted, this is a half season of triple AAA for Stratton versus two full seasons for Heston. I'm surprised Stratton has done as well as he has considering the numbers he posted in San Jose and Richmond the past couple of years.

And Kontos continues his reversal of fortune with inherited runners. Wonderful.

These are the 2014 numbers for Heston, but your point is that he was in AAA for two seasons is correct. Stratton needs some more seasoning. He began the season in AA Richmond, and did quite well. But the Coast league is a tougher place to pitch.

I think AA Eastern League is a place to show you can hit. AAA PCL is a place you can show you can pitch.

Supposedly, the Giants restricted his arsenal in the lower innings so he could work on specific pitches. This year (again, supposedly) they took the training wheels off so he could learn how to use all his weapons.

How accurate is all this? I have no idea. I have seen/read it from multiple sources, though.
