On the MLB.com replay, Kruk's first comment was "and the new grip is working".

Did Belt change something (hopefully)? Different stance?

I'm probably going to really screw this up, but it has to do with the way he is gripping his bat. A few weeks ago they said he was holding it so that the bottom knuckles were aligning (too tight of a grip) so they had him work on changing it so that the middle ones line up. Or something like that.

Sounds good to me! Well done!

The splitter is working! Good luck, Brew Crew.

The magic of the contract year...

It doesn't work for Zito who is completely and truly done.

aaaand the patented Panda FPOM...

I've been saying this year is mostly Pagan's injury and Cain's struggles, but Panda's suckitude is at least as important.

If those 3 play most of next year in the form they can and have delivered in the past, maybe we don't need a new bat.

Timmah going for the CG...maybe he's really figured it out.

Nope. Towers in to replace him. Guess Noggin didn't see the need for the CG shutout.

I think they may want to take a look at Monell. Also, Oxy will need to come off the 60 in about a month or so. MAYBE give Escobar a look-see (highly unlikely).

They were willing to give Lilly a look, so you know they are willing to make changes...

If I were the Giants, I wouldn't activate Pagan. I'd rotate thru the OFers already on the 40-man instead - Perez, Peguero, Kieschnick - for LF and CF (obviously with with Pence in right ) to get a sense of what they might be able to contribute next year.

I'd tell Pagan "We want to make sure you are 100% for next year and don't want to activate you for just the last few games of this season. That hammy needs to be treated with kid gloves so that it is fully healed. Remember what happened in your rehab start this year, when it got damaged worse."

So Blanco and/or Torres are bait to be released.

I like your logic. However, they can market Oxy's return, so I am not sure they would shelf him. They generally do not do that sort of thing.

I REALLY don't see Blanco as a DFA candidate. Torres? Absolutely. But Blanco is an elite 4th OF.

Since May, Timmah's stats:

77 IP 62 H 29 ER 8 HR 82 K 22 BB

WHIP 1.09
K/BB 3.72
K/9 9.58
ERA 3.39

If he did that for a season, he'd be approximately a 4.4 WAR pitcher. In other words, a #2...

Timmeh was lights-out today, but it is the Brewers.

Being impressed by that is like saying Estrada is an elite pitcher based on what he did to the Giants yesterday...

Timmah's been fairly lights out for over two months now.

It's definitely an interesting development.

Well, Blanco is an elite DEFENSIVE outfielder. He hasn't been able to hit his way out of a paper bag this year, and his OBP (one of his shining stars before coming to the Giants) is in the toilet. He's great as a pinch runner, or late-inning defensive replacement, or for a double switch, but he shouldn't be starting or even pinch-hitting based on this year's performance. I wouldn't want to pay a guy $2M to warm the bench, get maybe 50 ABs, and play maybe 200 innings over the course of the year.

I may have over-stated by calling him an elite 4th, granted, but he is a solid 4th/elite 5th OF. He has just been super bad the last 3 weeks or so. I agree that he should not be slated as a starter, and even going in with him slated in a platoon is a scary proposition (thus, we NEED a LF this off season).

But DFA him over Torres or Zito? I really don't think so. He offers enough to legitimately hold a roster spot.
