For all the people screaming "replace Belt" (not necessarily here - any more  ), I think the best upgrade for the Giants next season is in LF. (Well, and Pagan coming back healthy, and Pablo losing 40 pounds.)

A RHB to play LF that can hit for MLB "average", along with a healthy Pagan and Panda and Posey and Scutaro could work. I've said for years (obviously not on this site) that I wish the Giants could find a player that will take advantage of AT&Ts layout and quirks. Or, rather, I wish they'd find *another* one. When Pagan was first acquired via trade, at his introduction to the press at the park he said "I am going to LOVE hitting here - with that deep CF and the gap the RF has to leave down the baseline, I see a lot of doubles and triples in my future here." PERFECT. I'd like to see the Giants find another player that thinks like that and bat him 5th behind Pagan, Scutaro, Sandoval, and Posey.

Also, Crawford seems to love hitting in the 2 spot - lots of success (albeit a SSS). Scutaro, Craw, Panda, Posey, Pagan, Belt could be a winning combo.

They were today, and Timmeh was back being Timmeh. Maybe he has figured something out. No way is he a $20 million a year pitcher though, not after what we have seen the last 18 months from him. But these last two months? Yeah, a QO is in his future.

If we throw out the post-Nono game, these stats are even better.

Agreed, but moving forward I could see him giving us a season where he craps the mound once every 12 starts. His PQS scores since May:

503533550455

--where 0,1 are disaster starts and 4,5 are dominant starts.

7 dom, 2 dis, 3 avg That's a #2 starter.

Well, Blanco is an elite DEFENSIVE outfielder. He hasn't been able to hit his way out of a paper bag this year, and his OBP (one of his shining stars before coming to the Giants) is in the toilet. He's great as a pinch runner, or late-inning defensive replacement, or for a double switch, but he shouldn't be starting or even pinch-hitting based on this year's performance. I wouldn't want to pay a guy $2M to warm the bench, get maybe 50 ABs, and play maybe 200 innings over the course of the year.

Blanco can hit, but he has been over-exposed the last 2 season with the Giants. He was on a good pace, elite 4th OF/ good 3rd OF the first half of 2013, but as is the case with most bench players over-exposure brings out the flaws in a big way. In 2012, he was fantastic when he took over the full-time job in May, but was again over-exposed and suffered mightily.

He can be a elite/really good 4th OF if he sees around 350 ABs a season as a bench guy. They need to treat Blanco like they treat Arias. They did an excellent job with Kobe last year IMO.

Ummmm......

Blanco has 324 ABs so far this season, and has been shit. Your logic fails.

Gentlemen, I posit that Timmeh had his best game of the year today, and yes I do mean better than the no-no.

Filthy and in control all day, far fewer walks, way more efficient (108 pitches to get 24 outs vs 148 to get 27).

I think I'm a Timmy believer for next year, as in #2-3 pitcher...and I hope it's as a Giant.

He's been in a starters role for those ABs which has led to over-exposure. It's the difference between a starter and a reserve, starting caliber MLB players are able to adjust to the league while reserves struggle with that adjustment on the fly.

To say Blanco has been shit this season is wrong too. He has been absolutely terrible since the ASB yes, but he had a respectable batting line pre-ASB (and a very hot June) and with his speed/defense I would take that all day from a 4th OF. If he was in an actual bench role (a la Arias) I think his production would be better, unfortunately the last 2 years have forced Boch to use him in a starters role because of suspension and injuries.

This was one of his most dominant starts ever, in discussion with his no-no, his opening game in the 2010 NLDS against the Braves, his game 5 2010 World Series clincher, and a couple games in his CY Young days (I believe he had a 15 K game against the Pirates).

As you said, he was in command of his stuff today like we haven't seen in awhile. In his recent success he has had fastball command and mixed in all his pitches. Moving forward, that is what he's going to have to do. I hope he's able to stick around.

Whoa, Curt, put down the hypodermic. Today was a good game. MAYBE better tan the no-no. But the game against the Braves was one of the greatest games ever in the history if the game, against a real team. Today was against the Brewers, sans Hart, sans Braun (wow, reading that makes it even more appropriate).
