I agree, and I think they do have that discretion... but they never use it if they do.

Plus, who would you give that error to? Pitcher or catcher?

Personally, I think the 3rd Baseman should be called to task for not running in there and taking over.

There has been discussed introducing a "team error" to account for those kinds of "errors.

I doubt it will be introduced, but it is an interesting idea.

To be fair, Hendricks just got a scolding from the pitchi coach to throw strikes, and started the previous AB with FB down the pipe.

In THAT situation, first-pitch-swinging was actually pretty smart. Unfortunately, with EA swinging, there really isn't any good strategy.
