saw a stat about the cubs having swept 4, 4 game series this year (maybe it was 5?)

last time they did that, 1945

their last WS (hey, they came close that year!)

Yeah, one of those 4-game sweeps was against the Mets. Then they swept a 3-gamer in Queens, where the Mets have been very good all year -- except against NL Central teams.

I think any one of the Cards, Pirates, or Cubs could win the Pennant. They all just keep kicking ass. But, they're going to eliminate each other, so the eventual pennant winner only needs to beat one of them in the playoffs.

It's gonna suck if you're Pitt or Chicago and you lose that one-game wildcard, knowing that you had one of the best teams in either league.

Afternoon baseball at Wrigley, as it should be.

Hope those Cubs get blasted.

And not the good kinda blasted, either.

Can we put their blasting-in-a-bad-way on hold until Tuesday through Thursday? Preesh. :yo:

Why can't they be blasted from Monday through Thursday? Wouldn't that be okay?

Tell ya what... I'll have them put Soler and Motte on the DL and call up La Stella & Rosscup. That might help blast those blasting Cubbies all-night-long!!! All night!!

Now that the Mets have since revamped their roster, there's no way they'd be swept by the Cubbies in Chicago & NY.
That was more of an anomaly than anything...and I mean by both teams at the time...but mainly due to the mets lethargic offense & inept defense, which have been drastically improved since.

Yeah, one of those 4-game sweeps was against the Mets. Then they swept a 3-gamer in Queens, where the Mets have been very good all year -- except against NL Central teams.

Remember this from last week?

This is wild.

Nearly a third of the Mets' games this year have been against CIN, MIL, MIA, COL, PHI. They're 27-8 in those games.

That means they're 37-48 when they're not playing the five worst teams in the majors.

This applies even more so to their home record. These five teams have made up 37% of the Mets' home schedule, and they've gone 18-3 against them in those games.

The only time the Mets have been "very good" this year is when they're playing literally the five worst teams in the majors.

Congratulations on 20,000 posts. Have a nice day.

I assume you're talking about their 14-6 August. Those five teams I mentioned above have made up 50% of the Mets' August schedule and they went 10-0.

They did have a series against PIT though, and got swept.

Don't get salty. I'm just jealous that the Indians can't be a mediocre team in a shit division too. Once a team's in the playoffs, anything can happen.

Damn right yer jealous of my handsomeness!

2 of those losses to Pitt. were due to Parnell's massive braincramps out of the pen...and Terry Collins reverting to his may & june myopia.

That hardly balances out the cake schedule the Mets have enjoyed all season, at home and in August.
