Pagan (the good Pagan) has been sorely missed. I think this team, more than others, relies on having a good leadoff hitter. I'm getting real tired of Blanco and Torres, they are good enough 4th guys, but Pagan has been a tough blow, and I agree I think that is being dismissed too easily.

Casilla coming back has seemed to revitalize the Pen, and Kontos has probably perma-banned himself from pitching in the majors until September. Starting pitching has been good (except against these Reds, whom we never pitch well against). Volgy pitch a couple innings in rehab tonight. He's on his way.

A better leadoff hitter would do good things for this lineup IMO. I like Blanco lower in the lineup, not at leadoff. If there is a guy out there that can be a new number 1, I'm sure Sabes is looking at him.

He might be looking, but he ain't gonna be trading for him this year. No way we're buyers. The only question is how much selling will we do.

As much as I have talked about dealing Timmeh, Pence and Romo, I would be shocked if any are actually dealt.

SabeySabes has NEVER sold during his entire tenure with the G's. The closest I can remember was dealing Durham to the Crew.

My guess is none. I don't think we'll make a move.

We're not going to sell. If anything, we'll sit on our hands. Tzill said it in another thread, the best we'd probably get for Pence and Tim anyway would be the compensation picks anyway.

We are going to sit on our hands and ride out the storm, or make minor moves that don't cost our top prospects (salary dumps etc.)

I agree, yep. :agree:

I wouldn't be totally shocked if we deal Pence though. He's the only one I can see us dealing. And we might still re-sign him in the offseason. Lopez too.

I don't think we do anything for the remainder of this season. We will play with what we have. As much as I'd like to see the kids be brought up and play ... I don't think that happens either. Boch likes his veterns. I think we end the season with this team that's on the field now. Pence and Timmy get QO as protection. I don't think either of them will be with us in 2014. I see them being dealt during the December meetings. I think we have a relatively busy December especially if we have both Pence and Timmy as trading chips. As someone here stated earlier .... we desperately need a lead-off hitter. I think Bam-Bam is also gone. Not his fault but they have to point to someone for this reversal. Another December candidate for trading (IMHO) is Belt. I think he has just about used up his 'potential' status. I also think we need one more SP. Cain and Bum are solid. The Molester has been a surprise. After than it's a crap shoot. Kontos has been a disappointemt lately. Seemed to have taken on the role of a gas can.

This is mostly plausible, for sure.
As far as a lead-off hitter, Pagan is in the first year of a 4 year deal. When he comes back, he's the lead-off hitter.

By December, we will not be able to trade Timmeh or Pence. If we resign them, I believe there is a rule in the CBA that says we cannot trade them until about the ASB (not sure of the time). The only deals with them would be us signing them, them accepting the QO, or someone else signing them.

I think you're confusing Timmy and Herk's status this offseason. Once we give them the $13MM QO's they are both going to reject it (although there is an outside chance Timmy takes his). Once the QO is rejected, both are FAs and we get sandwich picks after the first round as soon as they are signed by another team. If Timmy takes the QO, then he can't be traded for the duration of his (one year) contract. There is zero chance Herk takes the QO, so he either re-signs with the Giants or he goes to another team and we get a sandwich pick. The team that signs either of them loses its first rounder. Note that we don't get that first rounder but rather a sandwich pick and everyone else in the first round moves up (including us). So in no sense are either "trade chips" after next week.

As for the SPs, Bum and Cain are signed long term; Zito has a $7MM buyout and we may offer him 20/2 or something similar; Tron has a $6.5MM club option for next year and I'd be shocked if we don't pick that up; Monsieur Le Grope will draw a lot of interest I'm sure but you'd think we have the inside track on him. Maybe 2/15? AAA has very little to help with -- Petit is probably the best of the bunch; Kick needs time in the minors and so does Kamp; Castillo/Fitz/Lively don't look to be ML arms. AA has Escobar/Gloor/Snodgrass (all lefties) but are likely a year plus away; Rogers and Westcott are org depth at best right now. A+ has hope -- Blach/Blackburn/Crick and Mejia are legit prospects; Fleet, Forjet and Marte are still young enough to become legit. Similarly, A- has a lot of promise: Biagini, Flores, Gregorio, and Stratton are showing well and Lujan may be a sleeper.

All told, we may have a rotation next year of Bum/Cain/Zeets/Tron/Gaudin with Petit/Kick/Kamp pushing to make the roster.

I doubt we trade a GG first basemen with power who is still under team control for 4 more years. I don't think any team wants him bad enough to part with blue chip prospects or a major league starting OF. If we do need to move Buster to 1b (and I don't think we do, but the Susser could force the issue), we could always move BB9 to LF, where he'd be more than adequate. He's got four tools right now: speed, power, defense, and an arm. He doesn't hit for average (yet) but I don't think you trade a guy making $400K giving you 3.0 WAR -- that's just bad business.

:agree:

If/when Brown makes the big club he eases Oxy into LF. Hey, what about this:

Brown CF
Scoots 2b
MVP 1b
Panda 3b
Oxy LF
BB9 RF
Susser C
Stamos SS

only drawback is we have no nick for Brown. Yet.

Yup, unfortunately this isn't like the NBA where you can sign and trade guys. If Tim and Hunter are under our control come December, they will be Giants in 2014.

FAs signing contracts could not be traded until mid-June this year.

I see what you did. Nicely done.

I don't know about all the BB9 hate on the board, and on Bagg's posters and Pavlovic's posters. I absolutely detest Bochy's refusal to play him against lefties. Let the kid play. Like many other teams have done (i.e. Freeman)

I don't think Posey makes a move to 1B F/T for a few years. He is too valuable as a catcher. Still, he needs solid backup. I think we may see Hacktor or Monell before we see Susser, but Susser is holding his own with the Flying Squirrels. Still, one can dream.....

I'd be very hesitant to resign Zeets. I'd sooner pay him his money and dumpster dive for another starter. I am not sure I can handle another year of 9.00+ road ERA for a guy making upwards of $18 million per season. (Not that he'd sign for that next year.)

So you want Belt out there every day? Where does Posey play when he cant catch? Or do you like our lineup without him? hope so because you get to 'enjoy' it tonight

When Posey needs to rest his knees, but not take a full day off, then Belt sits, as Posey > Belt. BUT this BS that happened the 2nd game after the AS break when Posey played 1B because a lefty was starting has to stop. Buster didn't need a rest. And historically Belt hits lefties better than righties (both AVG and SLG) !! Probably because lefties can't easily throw that soft crap inside that dies about where his back ankle is (you know, Belt's kryptonite).

I really don't want ANY player out there every day, they all need days off. And I do like the idea of Posey playing 1st once in a while. But even he needs a day off, completely.

If the choice is Belt at 1st and Posey catching, versus Posey at 1st and Quiroz catching, I will take the former.

Does BB9 have issues? Yes. But he is a very good glove at 1st, and is developing as a hitter. He will not develop if he plays two and sits one, then plays three and sits one. Still, Belt has played in 94 out of 100 games, so perhaps this is more perception than reality.

Me? :nono:

:dunce:
