Would someone PLEASE get a memo, written in large letters and small words to Blanco that he is to take at least two pitches before making an out?!?!?

Tanaka singles after seeing 8 pitches.

Blanco sees two pitches and GIDP

Then Abreu grounds out after three pitches.

Well, who can blame them? These guys can't come back from a one run deficit, much less an 11 run deficit. Well, supposing the Reds' slump continues with a non-scoring 9th.

Yup I guess I got that wrong thanks for the correction even if someone else actually wrote it.

I don't have a problem if I need to be corrected... I don't have a thin skin....I am frustrated with the Giants inability to draft, develop or sign above average young players.

Are you impressed with the use of Bold italics and underline?

rep for formatting skills lol

Having a thick skin will serve you well here. Although I don't completely agree with your assessment, its good to get different takes on the matter.

There's just so much more to the equation of running a successful franchise...simply pointing out the lack of positional player development as the Achilles heel is too limited a view.

Would it help? Absolutely, not disputing that. Just that 30 teams have 30 different business plans.

For simplicity's sake, I'd just much rather have the Giants situation than say, the A's where they can develop some players, yet lack the resources to hold onto those players. They trade them away to get more young talent and the cycle continues..

Huh...What?????

Years from now, people will look back at the Reds' not scoring in the 8th inning tonight as the turnaround for the Giants' season.

This is the kind of inspirational ballgame that brings back memories of a typical weeknight game at the 'Stick in the mid-1980's, where you could hear every conversation behind home plate in the background of the radio broadcast.

Since the ASB

Giants are 3-23 with RISP (not that it mattered tonight)

Since May 18, they are hitting .218 with RISP over 463 at bats. Last year, not a great year, the Giants hit a measly .260 with RISP. That's 20 extra hits, and at minimum, 20 extra runs, which would have turned the tide in a few games.

They are 2-0 when scoring first

They are 0-2 when not scoring first

And the beat goes on. But hey, as Mr. Banks said, "Let's lose/play two" tomorrow!

On a positive note, the Reds don't score for the 2nd inning in a row, and the rain globes of Scutero are pretty cool!

With 600 of your closest friends. Been there. Done that. Have the Croix de Stick collection to prove it.

Repost from prospects page To get to know you here

It's strange but up until recently I have been a glass half full guy. It's weird that for 20 plus years following the Giants prospects as much as I could, it isn't untill they won a world series and then a second that I have become cynical about the Giants Drafting, Developing and signing of young players.

I have been in the "there must be some really good players around the corner" mind set for so long without much in the way of results, (position players) other than when they have drafted high in the 1st round, that it has made me a bit too cynical.

P.S. drafting High in the 1st round means they were terrible for a year or two.

Did they give out the Scutaro rain globes tonight?

I don't really care for all the giveaway swag but that was one I wanted..that and my replica ring which just came in the mail! Yeah buddy

I've never been a big follower of the minor league system but we have some good guys here that do.

I just wait til they were just about to break though to get really excited.

Brings me back to memories back at the stick as a kid. I was sitting next to some older man, who saw me keeping score and told me to make a note about this "Trevor Wilson" kid..gonna be the next great one

Since then, I tempered my expectations on the next crop of Giants..until this fireballer named Lincecum came around and was exactly what the hype over every stud prospect was supposed to be.

The ugly truth of the season is this:

Giants are averaging 3.93 runs per game

Giants are allowing 4.44 runs per game (including unearned runs)

Our scoring deficit is over half a run per game. For a team that doesn't score much, that is huge!

Hope Sabes figures it out.

In 2012, the stats were reversed, scoring 4.43 runs per game, and allowing 4.01 runs per game.

So in 2013, we are scoring half a run less, and allowing a half a run more. No wonder we are in deep yogurt.

And drafting late in the first round means they were NOT terrible for a year or two.

See how that works?

You look at the lack of an Albert Pujols or Mike Trout. I (and many here) look at the surplus of Matt Cains, Brian Wilsons, Sergio Romos, and Jonathan Sanchezs.

You focus on the fact that we had to be bad to be in a position to draft Buster Posey, Will Clark or Matt Williams. I (and many here) look at the fact that we had to be pretty good to be in a position to have to draft Adam Hyzdu, Calvin Murray, Chris Stratton, Christian Arroyo, Joe Panik or Gary Brown.

Am I saying that drafting and developing positional talent is a strength of this org? No. It OBVIOUSLY is not an org strength. However, drafting and developing pitching talent is ABSOLUTELY an org talent, and they are pretty friggin elite at that.

you're my dude, sf r the best. Sure it sucks losing and baseball is a game which gives many chances for criticism but how quickly we all forget how much we would have given our left foot to see a Giants world championship in our lifetime.

Maybe it's complacency, maybe it's perspective, but even though its bad, it really isn't that bad.

Whenever things get bad, I just look at the 2010 and 2012 postseason DVDs and amend those worries. We have it pretty danged good.

Yeah, but....yeah, but....

I wouldn't be so miserable if it hadn't been for that dang curse of those two World Series titles!

Haha! I am defiantly mad at the play, they have looked like crapola most of this season! I think back to 2008 sometimes and almost (ALMOST) miss the losses back then, not necessarily because I like losing, but because the losses back then weren't as grueling as they are now. They were a means to an end, the losing led to Posey and Lincecum and Bumgarner and we won a title. But now it all goes downhill from there, for us at least. Unless we win every year.

Looking at those DVDs don't make this team any easier for me to watch, but it helps me sleep at night.

We can look back fondly at 2010 and 2012 now but I remember tons of griping while watching those two teams play.

I think the mounting injuries are too easily dismissed. We have to watch bench players try to fill the shoes of missing guys and this team doesn't have a lot of room for error (pun intended because the defense has been shiet this year)

Pagan (the good Pagan) has been sorely missed. I think this team, more than others, relies on having a good leadoff hitter. I'm getting real tired of Blanco and Torres, they are good enough 4th guys, but Pagan has been a tough blow, and I agree I think that is being dismissed too easily.

Casilla coming back has seemed to revitalize the Pen, and Kontos has probably perma-banned himself from pitching in the majors until September. Starting pitching has been good (except against these Reds, whom we never pitch well against). Volgy pitch a couple innings in rehab tonight. He's on his way.

A better leadoff hitter would do good things for this lineup IMO. I like Blanco lower in the lineup, not at leadoff. If there is a guy out there that can be a new number 1, I'm sure Sabes is looking at him.
