I am not concerned with his state of mind. I am just concerned with his health. Dude is made of glass.Best of luck to the young man and hopefully he has his head screwed on tighter than Strick.

What if Sammy s finished? We may still need Mr Holland.No.
No, he will not.
Mostly b/c he will not be in the rotation, but also b/c he sucks.

Oh, I saw Puig at physical therapy today. He had the senior PT working on him.
Which would make Holland our #5 starter.Finished? Doubtful.
Traded? Hopeful.

Not necessarily.Which would make Holland our #5 starter.
I think you may not like this one, but I'll say it anyway: I'd rather have Holland start than Blach. Not necessarily.
signed,
Ty Blach
No thank you. He is a mid-inning reliever at best. I would MUCH rather Holland as the 5 than Blach. Not necessarily.

Holland, last two years (44 starts) ERA+ 78.6No thank you. He is a mid-inning reliever at best. I would MUCH rather Holland as the 5 than Blach.
You are factoring in Holland’s absolute worst season by far into that somewhat SSS. Holland’s ERA in ‘17 was 6.20. Outside of his rookie year, his worst ERA for a season was 4.95 (granted, that was in ‘16). His career ERA is 4.54 while accumulating 5 seasons of at least 130 IP.Holland, last two years (44 starts) ERA+ 78.6
Blach, last two years (36 starts) ERA + 88.0
Holland 31 yo
Blach 27 yo
You are factoring in Holland’s most recent seasons by far into that somewhat SSS. Holland’s ERA in ‘17 was 6.20. Outside of his rookie year, his worst ERA for a season was 4.95 (granted, that was in ‘16). His career ERA is 4.54 while accumulating 5 seasons of at least 130 IP.
Blach has only been in the league for 1 full season and has a career ERA of 4.48. His one season of at least 130 IP, he had an ERA of 4.78.
At the end of the day, neither pitcher is truly more than a #5, but Holland has a career in his back pocket while Blach is still struggling just to show he belongs. The Giants should do what they can to not have either start for any extended period, but in the event that Sammy “disappears”, Holland is the better option right now.
And if Blach were not under team control, he would end up being an NRI. That is who he is. Ultimately, though, I don’t expect Blach to have as impressive a career as Holland. We can disagree. I fixed your first sentence. I compared them over the same time period, which as you point out is Blach's ONLY time period. There's a reason Hollcrap was an NRI this year. He sucks as a starter. He might be a decent LR, but even then probably not. He threw well today. Let's trade him.
That's fine; I don't either. However, that's NOT the criteria we are dealing with TODAY. We are deciding who is the better option moving forward in 2018.And if Blach were not under team control, he would end up being an NRI. That is who he is. Blach all day and twice on Sunday.
Hollcrap is washed.
Ultimately, I like Stratton better than both. But long term, I think Stratton is also a 6/long man. He is really just a 1-pitch guy, and 1-pitch guys do not have long starting careers. The fact that Ty Blach can't muster more than 4.4 K/9 in an era where strikeouts are in the stratosphere will never make me comfortable with the guy. At least Holland has that in his back pocket. But we're discussing swingmen right now. Neither guy is going to be in the rotation long term. Right now Holland is the better option, but history indicates that it won't last. May as well ride the hot hand, though. And it's clear it's Holland, right now.
Also, holy shit I just realized that Holland leads the team in innings.
But the numbers THIS YEAR don’t support that opinion.
Holland: 4.17, 99.1 IP, 98/38 K/BB, 1.329 WHIP
Blach: 4.54, 85.1, 47/28, 1.535

Over whom?I see your point, but I put more stock in a 2 year sample size than a half/quarter year sample. Again, we can disagree, but the PTB do not see Hollturd as a 4.17 ERA pitcher or he'd be in the rotation.
He is 24th in the NL in ERA among qualified pitchers. That makes him a #2.No.
No, he will not.
Mostly b/c he will not be in the rotation, but also b/c he sucks.
