Ice Cube’s Big 3 tournament showcased retired NBA players 40-years-old and up last month in Brooklyn. But how about a grandfather in his 60s who is interested in playing for an NBA team? A 61-year-old man has avid hoop dreams of making the NBA some day.

Former 1980 NBA Draft pick Calvin Roberts is still looking to make it big in the NBA. Standing at 6-foot-8, 246 pounds with a 7-foot wingspan, the Las Vegas grandfather reportedly hoped to astound recruiters and land a roster spot during the NBA Summer League tryouts this year — if given the opportunity.

"If God’s willing, I’ll get into the summer camp and show them I’ve still got talent there,” he said. “The Spurs, I hope they take me to a mini camp and I’ll get a little better there. Veteran camp is where they’re going to make you or break you and that’s my goals."

Back in January, Roberts began going to the gym. He apparently trained every day to keep his dream alive. In a June 27 interview with Fox5Vegas, he spoke about his goals and being relentless in his pursuit to join professional basketball.

"I'm trying to get myself into shape, better than I ever have been before. I'm trying to get into the summer league," 61-year-old Calvin Roberts said. "I want to go out against the best, the youngest. [That] makes me play better. I just have a goal I have to reach and I'm not going to let anything stand in my way to get there."

The Las Vegas grandfather apparently sent letters to eight different teams around the NBA, asking for a tryout. "I reached out to teams (where) I thought I could make a difference, I could fit in," he said. Going to a team like Golden State, kind of full right now."

What if my dream is to enslave the entire world under my evil dominion? Asking for a friend.

I would say Calvin Roberts' odds are slightly better than mine because he is 6'8", but still zero.

Yep. This guy has 1000x the chance of making the NBA as I do. But 1000 x 0 = 0
