I think Timmy could be moved to someone who needs a starter. He's pitched OK in June (3.60 ERA), and well, he's Tim Lincecum. Two CY's and two WS rings, and no 2014 contract. For 2013, he could put some club over the top. I'm fairly sure if we put him on the block, someone would overpay. Plus, he's likely not part of our future.

OTOH, Belt and Pence should be part of our future, and we should keep them. Towers is expendable, and preferably so. The money we save on Timmy in 2014 vs 2013 could buy two or even three quality players.

Pence is a nice player for sure, but he may not be a guy I want to pay $10-12 million per year. If we are out of it, I wouldn't mind moving him if we get a good prospect or two in return.

We definitely shouldn't give up on Belt, though, unless some team just blows us away with an offer. Let him work things out this year. He's excellent defensively, and I still think he can be good offensively.

I'm not sure Lincecum has much value. Yes it is a 1-year deal but this is a pitcher who is making 22M this year, the team won't get draft pick compensation for him and they know he is a shell of his former self. They can see the numbers he was great this month, but awful the month before. We won't get much for him

That's my fear. That IF the Giants chose to sell, they don't have a lot of pieces that would bring back much value.

I would add Scutaro to the list of guys who could be dealt (and could brings some decent prospects in return)

I don't think they would sell as a total rebuild. Guys that are good and under contract next year would be kept, like Scoots. Pence isn't under contract so he'd be traded. Heck we could still re-sign him if we want. Belt maybe isn't good enough to keep.

I agree that Scutaro is a candidate to be dealt if we're out of it, but I don't think we'd get much for him because of his age and the fact that he only really does one thing well. What did we give up for him? Hardly anything, IIRC.

Worst case scenario, we continue in free fall. Do you think Panda has any trade value. He is young and a helluva hitter, and not a bad defensive 3b. But his weight is a concern, and his injuries. Would he be attractive to an AL team as a DH?

Bottom line, I wouldn't trade Posey, but any other hitter is fair game. But that's my frustration speaking, I think.

What a truly, utterly, pathetic performance tonight. Giants will drop another first game of a series. Why can't Bochy get these guys up for the first game in a series? This would make it 2-10 in their last 12 games to open series. Head scratching, really.

Unless The Giants think Panik (or someone else) is ready for the job.

Problem is, it's not like the free agent choices are that great. The Giants could very well have a boatload of money to spend this offseason (with Zito/Timmeh/Pence coming off the books, maybe trading Scoots, etc.) and not a lot of decent players to target to replace them.

In short, I think I'd be relieved if the Giants resign Pence and hold onto Scutaro.

Off the top of my head, I think Posey, Craw, and Bum are the only untouchables.

(and I love these guys...but if the free fall does occur...)

First game, middle game, last game...they aren't winning much of any of them

Yeah, I was thinking only of hitters. I would think Cain and Romo may be untouchable as well.

If we had posted this carp in April, Filo would have called for the men with the white coats. And this sounds a whole lot like my Dodger friends just a month or two ago.

It is a long season, and we are close to .500 with as crappy as we have played, but dang, this is miserable. And I know Bochy is an even keel guy, but I wanna see some butt kicking and some of the old AB! Something to stir these guys out of their lethargy.

Only way I consider trading off in a (restructure) selling deadline is if we are 10 GB on July 31. If that is the case we let Zito (11M), Lincecum (22M) and Vogelsong all walk in FA (6.2M)

Yes, we have to fill 3 spots in the rotation. I believe Kickham can take one of those spots. So we have two more to fill but Pence, Zito, Lincecum, Voges contracts are gone. We still have to decide what to do with Pence, if we let him walk that is another 13.8M Lopez goes (replaced by Hembree) and that adds another 4.25M gone and Torres gone (replaced by Peguero).

Now this is if all goes to hell and we aren't in the playoff picture.

We are left filling 2 rotation spots, RF and bench needs

wow, I thought I was out there. Now people saying everyone (except Posey, Bumgarner, Craw). Although I may have missed a few posts but I think completely rebuilding is a bad idea

Hey, uh, a walk here brings the tying run to the plate. Just sayin'.

Well, how about that?
