Wasn't fond of the trade when it happened and it really pissed me off that they seemed to just let Beltran walk after the year ended. I don't thibnk they even put together an offer. I understand the concept of a rental but why the hell did they part with Wheeler without atleast trying to resign him. They may have but i was never able to find anything that they did in fact try

It was pretty well reported that Beltran wanted to wait for the market to settle before talking to anyone about a job. The Giants do not like to wait until they are in a corner to make their moves. They made the Pagan trade pretty early in the off-season that year.

By Beltran wanting to wait, he was telling the Giants he was not interested. The Giants were not going to wait on him. By the time he started talking to teams, the giants were done.
