Why does Matt Cain give up so many homeruns?

He's lost a lot of velocity so his fastballs get crushed when they are anywhere up.

I don't think the velocity loss is the issue with Cain. It is the "stuff" loss for him. He has always been a guy who pitches up in the zone. now that he doesn't have the same kind of "stuff", his pitches are getting creamed instead of popped up.

I think he has the competitiveness and mental makeup to be able to adjust, but it may take some time. Right now, he is a 3/4. He will occasionally show up and pitch a gem, but he is not consistent enough to be considered a 1/2.
