j_y.... I am not saying he cant or wont be productive. I am saying its foolish to think a guy who was drafted in the 2nd round can simply come in and replace a 3 time probowler. Im saying there is a reason he was there for us in the 2nd round. If he were considered a sure fire replacement for Rak, he would never have been there in the 2nd round.

Got it. I'm in agreement with you.

dad, Rak is not an elite pass rusher. 10 sacks a season is not elite. He has injury problems and getting close to passing his prime. So why overpay? You move on no matter what kind of year he has. The money should go to RG3, Kerrigan, Williams, and Morris. If you decide to pay Rak then we lose Kerrigan. I cant see how we can keep both. Especially if Kerrigan has a double digit sack season.

If RG3 has a huge year he is going to want Kapernick type money which will cause big money problems for the Skins. With the weapons he has now he should be a 30TD type player.

RG3 is more injury prone and has a more likely chance of having his career ended at any moment based on injury history and style of play. IF either of them should be jettisoned it would be RG3. But reality is the team can afford to keep rak, Kerrigan, Williams and RGknee without a problem. We have $11.5 million in cap space in 2015 and $63 million in 2016. this is without making a single move. So Im sorry to tell you that money wont be an issue and shouldnt have been this year.

i think over time murphy can be an 7-8 sack a year guy . he will be a very good football player but to proclaim a 2nd rounder is going to pick up where Rak left off is a bold statement to say the least

this team has to start developing and keeping its draft picks into their primes . after they have reached a point where their skills are in decline , then you can move on

rak has at least 4 good prime years left . why let the pats reap that ? or colts ? or our division rivals ?

dean is a prime example of what i am talking about . he says he isnt elite , then if he puts up elite numbers , well that isnt good enough either

this is the same group of people who think/thought rob jackson should take over ? they think that will make the defense better . they really think that . in the mean time he got no real offers from anyone else and we drafted two olbs who reputedly have some pass rush skills while jackson lives on the bubble

again a rotation of rak , kerrigan , and murphy should be a formidable trio for at least half a decade

and what about kerrigan ? are you guys saying he is elite ? if he wants elite pay are you going to take the rak stance ?

if rak lays and egg or gets hurt then his value will take a corresponding hit . but me personally what is not to like about a 3x PB player who is a model citizen on and off the field ?

Are we talking about Sack numbers when you mention elite numbers, or the other 98 percent of plays that he participates in? If it is just the plays that he rushes the passer then he is very good. If you are talking about the other plays, then let us see him produce more before he gets that label.

The coaching staff blew their collective wads when he was available. They had him as a first round grade. They were willing to pass on the guy they went into the draft coveting in Moses. Murphy may end up being a better football player than Rak.

i am talking about these numbers , sacks , hits pressures and hurries which i showed above put him ahead of mathis the sack leader in the NFL

now if you read what i said if he puts up 15 sacks and makes another PB it would be hard not to pay him

as for the other 98% exaggeration i would say its scheme accounts for a good portion of it .

It is his chance to prove his worth this year. If he doesn't get to elite status but wants a max type deal he will have to get it in Tampa or buffalo or somewhere else. If he has a career year then we sit him down and sign him

Well, maybe it is time he start playing like it.
Here NFL.Com separates the top 3 from the next tier. He is lumped together with ..
Mario Williams, Terrell Suggs, LaMarr Woodley, Trent Cole, Tamba Hali, Justin Houston, Elvis Dumervil, Ryan Kerrigan, Paul Kruger.

Difference in opinion I suppose. They don't give him any extra kudos.

The fact that we tagged him, shows we were very concerned about the position. If he shows he is head and shoulders better than Murphy his leverage will be strong. If not, then him staying here depends on how bad he wants to.

all i can say is PFF takes into account all the things an OLB needs to do and assigns a grade to him based on what they saw in the plays . his grade turned out to be 4th b est in the nfl . NFL.com on the other hand has him rated based on a few stats and some opinion that may or may not hold water

to me , he and kerrigan are about the same type of player as their 1st 3 years indicate . we need to hold on to both of those guys and we should be able too

dad, PFF rated Polumbus as the best OL on the Skins too. I am just teasing, you not the rating. I see both sides of this. Orakpo has been no trouble and been a team player since he has been here. The season will play out and then we will have an idea what should happen. Right now everyone is looking back and all that matters is what happens. Sometimes it doesn't come down to how well you played but how it effects the cap.
