Maybe didn't need a trick play, but the pass hit the receiver right in his hands. He popped it up and it was picked off.

It definitely should have been caught. The receiver might have been thinking the same thing I was, that the passer was about to take off and run. He ran right up to the line of scrimmage and had a good bit of green grass in front of him. Gotta be ready at all times, but maybe he wasn't expecting the ball.
