I hate the move and I hope he has no money guaranteed. Also I would like it if he didnt make the roster.

From what I've read, he is a talented receiver, but his head is not screwed on straight. Not just the trouble he got himself into, but also doesn't give max effort on the field. Hopefully, none of the contract is guaranteed and the team can cut bait if it doesn't work out. I don't like these type of players, few seem to ever get their act together.

Shit signing IMO. Yet another move that proves this FO has no clue about WR talent.

they are going to draft a top talent for WR, so this VALUE signings make sense now. You can only sink so much cap into WR's.

Let's see.. Currently, the on WR's on the team are Boldin, Johnson, Ellington, Patton. Crabtree and Lloyd are free agents and Johnson might get cut. Signing Simpson on a no guaranteed contract just adds depth... This does not mean the 49ers will not add WR's in the draft. This just ensures that if the top WR's are all gone by the Niners pick, then at least they have a veteran WR with some speed on the roster.

I stand by my post. This isn't about money or a cap situation, just a bad signing.Take it as anyone might see it. Fail IMO.

for me, can't think of any FA signing........on any team......that isn't about money or cap?

Pointless move. Why sign this guy to take reps away from patton, Ellington and whoever we draft. Not a fan of this move.

they intend for Simpson to run routes that Patton nor Ellington can't run. Cause if Patton or Ellington could do it, they'd have showed it last year.

Simpson is the type of WR they'll target in the draft......able to fly downfield.

As long as you've got Kaepernick as QB I suppose it really doesn't matter who he has on the outside; he can't get the ball to them.

As Bay Area Sports Guy said Trent Baalke is obsessed with wide receivers who missed the previous season: Randy Moss, Brandon Lloyd, now Jerome Simpson.

Oh and does Jerome Simpson understand that weed is not legal in California? Because if not, someone needs to talk to him.

2 years??? This reeks of desperation. It just does...

The 49ers don't have the salary cap space to bring in a talented free agent WR so they are taking a chance on a talented but underachieving one. These don't usually work out. As long as there is no guaranteed cap hit. I would rather try to keep SJ and let MC walk

We all know the 49ers dont like spending money on big name free agents. They like to resign their own players and build through the draft. The last time we got a big name players was Justin Smith in 2008. But it would be nice to actually get a big name WR or CB one of these years. I mean every year I get all excited hoping this will be the year the 49ers get that big name but it never happens.

You are right. It isn't Baalke's way. But right now they couldn't even if they wanted to due to their limited cap space. They could cut some vets and restructure, but that just kicks the can down the road

I mean if we cut Brooks, Stevie, Dahl, Jonathan Martin and Justin retires that takes us from 6.5 in cap to 22 million. I dont think these few moves are anything crazy and are very likely scenarios. That gives us more than enough cap space to bring in a WR like Cobb, Maclin or Marshall and still have money to bring in role players.

Also 49ers can go from 22 million in cap to 28 million just by cutting players who prolly wont even make the team. Players like Trindon Holliday, Leon McFadden, Andrew Tiller, Lance Lewis, etc. I mean im pretty sure none of these guys will make the 53 man roster or 55 if it gets bumped up. That 28 could easily been 30+ if we gave Aldon a big deal and maybe restructured Willis.
