So what makes the hitters so impatient? Aren't they taught to work the count? Who's job is that? Or are they constitutionally unable to avoid swinging at the 1st or 2nd pitch they see?

It is an org philosophy, and as much as we gripe about it, it is a legit strategy.

Most pitchers want to get ahead in the count, so will offer up the fattest meat at 0-0, 1-0 or 0-1. At the same time, these are some of the best hitters in the world, so playing HS or little league games of not swinging until you see the 3rd pitch just doesn't work.

The team is scuffling for sure now. Started hot, now slumping.

There will be more hot streaks and slumps over the next 140 games, and they will still likely perform at about their expected high 80s win total, competing for a wild card.

I am not ready to say that. His bat has been OK, but has he added more runs with his bat or with his glove?
