Giants SLAM Rockies in 11 rounds ...The Rumble at the Rock Pile

It was a rumble for the Ages as a back up catcher Hector Sanchez stepped up to the plate and pounded a Grand Slam deep into the Rock Pile in the 11th round of a Championship type of fight and the Giants won 12-10.

First it was Tulo who had a big series drilling a HR off Cain to win round 1. Morse responded with a long HR that was crushed to right center.

In the second round it was the Rockies who opened up a 5-1 lead with a flurry of punches and the Giants hit the mat for the first time.

In the third round the Giants connected with two round house punches to the chin of the Rockies by Hicks and Morse (2 HR's on the day) .Suddenly it was all tied up on points 5-5.

Fourth round belonged to the Rockies as Blackmon hit the Giants with a left cross to the nose , a HR that put the Rox ahead 6-5.

In the 7th round Belt hit a long high uppercut 2 run HR and the game was tied 7-7.

In the 8th round H. Sanchez hit a solo bomb but the Rockies responded with a run of their own.

It was 8-8 and both teams seemed tired but the battle went on.

Affeldt and Casilla delivered big innings along the way.

It all came down to a mistake by the Rockies corner man ,Walt Weiss who walked Arias to get to Sanchez who delivered the ultimate blow. Giants won a thriller 12-10 which could be a stepping stone to greater fights ahead. It was a Championship type of effort in the Mountains of Colorado by a great team.

I loved Kent Tekulve.
