Yesterday Boise State's three-time N.C.A.A. champion, Allie Ostrander, competed at the Prefontaine Classic, which was held for the first time outside of Oregon (in California). Allie beat her own personal best time in the 3,000 Meter Steeplechase by more than 6 seconds but she finished in 13th place yesterday. There were 17 competitors in the race. The fact that the very best in the N.C.A.A. beat her own personal best time by more than 6 seconds but finished in 13th place in this world class event illustrates just how many talented female Steeplechase runners there are in the world and how much better they are than even the very best in the N.C.A.A.

Allie's previous best time in the 3,000 Meter Steeplechase was 3:37.73 at this year's N.C.A.A. championships last month. Allie's time yesterday at the Prefontaine Classic was 9:31.44. The winning time yesterday was 8:55.58 by Kenya's Beatrice Chepkoech. Emma Coburn of the United States, despite falling at one point in the race, finished in 2nd place with a time of 9:04.90, i.e., 26 1/2 seconds faster than Allie Ostrander.
