It's funny that Dave Tippett wasn't complaining when the Yotes were gifted penalty calls in the 3rd periods of games during the regular season. I remember Doan running Giordano into the boards from behind in one game and only getting a two minute minor (should have been five and a game). Game goes into OT, Flames get a joke penalty called on them and who ends up scoring the winner? Yup, Shane Doan.

If we want to talk about embellishment, Tippett doesn't need to look any further than his goalie, he's flopping and diving like Bobby Lou when a Kings player breathes on him.

I haven't watched the series so I haven't seen everything, but that was a weak slashing call and Doughty straight up MMA'ed Doan down only for Doan to lose his temper and take a matching minor.

all true but lets not give Dustin Brown a total pass

more power to him, probably the best diver in the league ... Kesler the worst

I believe this is commonly known as Lindy Ruff Syndrome.

I don't know why, and I'm sure this is just me (plus a few Kings fans), but for some reason I don't view Brown's diving as badly as I do some other players. Maybe it's because Brown genuinely gets the fuck beat out of him every night, and doesn't dive on every call. That slash from Smith looked wicked as hell, and he's had to fight for every inch of ice out there. He doesn't dive every time he gets sneezed on either, he strikes when the opportunity is neigh, like Robert Lang descending on a McDonalds for BOGO Big Mac Monday.

Either way, it's a moot point. The Kings are manhandling the Coyotes, and it's ALL about the talent discrepancy. Tippett has a boring ass system, but he's a good coach with a mediocre, if not decent team in front of him. The Kings are just powering through them right now. I'd really like to see this Kings team go up against the '07 Ducks or the '97 Wings. Then again, I'd also like to see this Kings team go up against the Rags, because I'm not convinced they've had the strongest competition this year. I still think they win it all though.

was there a penalty for this?

Yup but Doan couldn't keep his composure and retaliated which meant both went off. Had he kept his cool Doughty would have gone off and offset Oliver Ekman-Larsson penalty earlier.

Perfect rugby tackle there by Drew.

As for the Kings? I've never seen a team support the puck like these guys. It is Darryl Sutter through and through. I remember thinking similar things about the '04 Flames.

When there is a puck battle and the Kings chip it by a Yotes player there is a King in full stride to snatch it up.

When the puck battle goes to the opposition? The Kings are backing up their teammate ready to make a solid hit.

Sutter has implemented this tightly spaced puck pressure system. It puts the onus on the players to make the right read. The Kings are just in a zone right now where every read is bang on.

This team is playing like the Flames of '04. The difference is that the guys who are hard on the forecheck are Dustin Brown and Jarret Stoll (vs. Shean Donoavan and Oleg Saprykin) and the guys supporting them are Mike Richards, Kopitar, Williams and Carter (vs. Iginla, Conroy, Gelinas and McAmmond).

The Kings are skilled and are playing their system perfectly right now. Tough to beat. Sutter has done a great job.
