i'm sure it has been discussed earlier, but i haven't been reading throughout the game. how does brown get a diving call when he gets a paul bunyan style hack to the back of the legs, but smith gets nothing when he clearly embellished the goalie interference call? i would not argue that it was goalie interference, but there should be a makeup call in there since pretty much anyone would go down like brown did, and he got a penalty.

How are the Canucks fans on here taking this Kings run. On one side, it feels good to know that Vancouver actually played well vs L.A even though they lost in 5. On the other, if the Canucks had gotten out of that first round, you could be doing this.

Kings are unstoppable right now. No shame in losing to them the way they were running. There is shame in handing them the first fucking game and having to run uphill for the rest of the series, but that's another matter.
Frankly, this run by LA (walking over St Lou especially) probably saved Vigneault's job.

Canucks haven't had that 'it factor' all year. whatever hot streaks they got on was mainly smoke and mirrors (I still don't know how they ended up with the Presidents Trophy). They were not a dominant team this year whatsoever. So while it is kind of frustrating to see the west open up like this (Det, Chi, St Lou, SJ all gone early) this does not have a 'should have been us' feel to it at all, because we didn't come close to pulling our game together the way LA has.

I noted that during the game as well. Just weird.

i am sure you have heard it many times before, but i can't help but feel that the team's identity comes from Vigneault. if you got a coach in there that would not tolerate bullshit like diving and not showing up when it actually means something, the Canucks would win a cup. the talent on that team is unbelievable. i just hate watching them play...simply because of the bullshit that they pull.

just my opinion but that was a combination of three things
- Brown has been diving all playoffs... that word travels through the refs, and they are watching for n opportunity to call it
- When you are slashed in one leg, generally both feet don't fly up in the air
- Refs have a mandate to protect the goalies, so they tend to favour them in altercations
- PHX was shorthanded already, so game management came into play
- PHX is owned by the NHL :tinfoil3:

I hear ya. It's tough to watch (and try to defend) sometimes.
They have gotten miles better in that regard. AV told Kesler/Burrows a couple of summers ago to knock the shit off and play the game. That they were good enough players that other teams should focus on taking them off of their games. You probably see the worst of it still, as there is a lot of hate between them and the Hawks (as I'm sure you know). :)

- Burrows was a flat out bitch when he got here. It still shows up occasionally, but he knows he's much more valuable on the ice.
- Kesler also mostly a bitch when he came into the league. Beast Mode is a joy to watch, the effort on the PK or backcheck is inspiring. When things aren't going well for him, he still unfortunately gets back to being a bitch. This past year was frustrating with injuries, and I think he tried to make up for it by drawing calls. Awful to see, and he still has some growing up to do in that regard.
- Lappiere was awful in MTL. Total yap. Cleaned up his act immensely, and that was specifically from Vigneault before he even sited up (AV had coached him previously in the minors I think). Lappy even worked on fighting to lose his rep as a turtle. Led the team in fights, or close to it, even though he didn't win many, he jumped in at the right moments.

I have to say, Los Angeles has impressed me more than any team in the Playoffs. They are just rolling over anyone who gets in their way to the Cup. I really don't see Phoenix climbing out of this 0-2 deficit. The Kings might sweep them, honestly.

You listed 5 things, but incredibly all 5 are relevant. I seriously think they all came into play.

Not much to say except go LA. They are playing incredible hockey right now.

Also, I'm basically rooting for Scuderi.

holy fuck. i havent been able to watch a single kings game, time zones and whatnot.

but this is utterly fuckin ridiculous. they have manhandled, dominated, wasted, pulverized, squashed, mauled, blasted and fucked the 1, 2 and 3 seeds, as an 8 seed scraping into the last spot.

i am actually rooting for the kings out of thr final four, but come on, this run has basically made a mockery of the league and especially the regular season.

Actually, I think there were two girls in that first row with similar white business suits, jstew. Tippett was strolling up and down the bench and at the other end, I think it was a blonde that had a nice set of high beams.

Hanzal has a date with Shanny today...

Coyotes' Hanzal to have hearing for hit on Brown

Edit: Sounds like Doan and Morris will receive no further discipline. I'm okay with the Doan call (5 and a game was enough), but that was an ugly knee that Morris stuck out on Scuderi.

Derek Morris always has been and always will be a little bitch. One day he'll get what's coming to him. :lm:

Hanzal deserves a couple of games. He’ll probably get one. Smith, for his hatcheting of Dustin Brown, should get a game, but I actually hope he doesn’t. Jason Labarbera is not good, but I don’t like the storyline of him jumping in to play game 3. Think Cory Schneider in round one, but with a little LA history thrown in. Labarbera might just pull a rabbit out of his hat under those circumstances.

But it was Smith’s chop of Brown that made me hate. That could have caused real damage. And Brown wasn’t even being Brown. He was just standing there. Smith is just pissed because Quick is out-Smithing him.

I wonder what Kings assistant GM Ron Hextall thought of the Smith chop (and whether or not it brought back some Stanley Cup memories of some time ago).
